Kathleen Edward Dies at Age 9

Kathleen Edward, the little girl who suffered from Huntington's Disease and harassment from her neighbors, has died at age nine.

Kathleen Edward reached national (and international) attention because of her neighbors, Jennifer and Scott Petkov. The Petkovs had a feud with Kathleen Edward's grandmother, which they took out on the little girl, driving past the Edwards' house dragging a coffin.

Kathleen Edward was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease at age three, and was not even expected to live this long. Kathleen's mother, Jennifer Edward, also had Huntington's Disease, and died at age 24.

What Is Huntington's Disease?

Huntington's Disease is a hereditary condition which causes cellular breakdown in the brain. Huntington's Disease usually presents symptoms in a patient's 40s or 50s. When it develops earlier (Juvenile Huntington's Disease), the disease progresses much faster.

“Kathleen far exceeded our expectations of survival. She’s the strongest little girl I ever met in my entire life, and she didn’t quit fighting. Now she gets to go into the arms of her mother, Laura,” said family friend Michelle Yerigian.
