Kids OFF The Couch: LA Fun Activities for January and February!

OUR FAVORITE PICK: Once a year, UCLA presents a classic silent film with a live accompaniment from the magnificent Royce Hall organ. This year, comedic legend Harold Lloyd stars in Speedy -- silly antics, car chases around NYC and a cameo by Babe Ruth will mesmerize kids, old and young. A Penny for a Pencil: We loved Greg Mortenson's Three Cups of Tea, an international bestseller about his solo success building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Come hear this remarkable man speak; he will be signing a kid version of his inspiring story. All proceeds are donated to Pennies for Peace,a wonderful opportunity for family participation! Calling all Drama Queens and Kings: The Geffen Playhouse has fabulous Saturday morning programming for young thespians. We're planning on Iron John and Got Homer, both productions with running times of under an hour -- a perfect introduction to one of our city's best stages.Feb. 14 and Feb. 21, both at 11 am. January is Art Month in LA: Take your kids to the Santa Monica Museum of Art to create art out of mud and straw, inspired by Ethiopian artist Elias Sime's current exhibit. Bounce Off The Wall: Your kids will crack up watching the quickest hands in basketball when the Harlem Globetrotters visit Southern California over Valentine's Day weekend; at the Honda Center, in Anaheim (2/14) and at the Staples Center (2/15). Click here for tickets.
Teens Off the Couch: Teens will love Pippin, put on by one of our favorite troupes in town -- Deaf West Theatre, performing a the Mark Taper through mid-March. The music rocks and the actors are like nothing else! Click here for tickets at the Mark Taper Forum.
LOL: The Hammer Museum hosts innovative writing classes from 826LA, Dave Eggers community outreach organization. We know, you're hearing your kids saying "No Way," but this one is taught by a comic who directs kids to write their own sketches. Space is limited. Ages 8 - 13, Sunday, Feb. 22. at 12.
