Keep Your Pocket Book Open.  The House ways and means committee will find the means with the so called rich.  Those Americans who make $280,000 or more.  Most of which own the small business in America and provide employment to millions of people.  The new way of Representative Charles B. Rangel of New York is to pay for health care through people who provide health care to their own employees.  Don't beleive it will stop there.  The $550 Billion is just the down payment on the program thus, the additional funds will come from somewhere and that somewhere will come from fees and taxes on production in America making American products more costly.  This type of economics has been tried before and has failed dismially.  But Americans think that just because the party in office has changed that government spending seems alright following a high spending Republican President and Congress over the prior four years.

WASHINGTON — House Democrats will ask the wealthiest Americans to help pay for overhauling the health care system with a $550 billion income tax increase, the chairman of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee said Friday.

The proposal calls for a surtax on individuals earning at least $280,000 in adjusted gross income and couples earning more than $350,000, said the chairman, Representative Charles B. Rangel of New York

Bad idea.  Hurt the small businessman employing workers, so that millions of people end up losing their jobs.  How will the Democrats deal with that?  Make as many people dependent on welfare as possible and therefore the government.  Next, tell them they are all victims and powerless to get themselves back on their feet financially.  Hope fades...

Having followed your health care debate in the U.S., I don.t think any of them know what they.re doing.  They have no real plan and fudge it when it comes to paying for it.  As an outsider I don.t understand why they can.t just come up with a plan to cover the 47 Million uninsured for now and then work on a universal plan for the long run.

Anything that is pushed through now, just to get it done, will face the same mismanagement your Medicaid and Medicare Program faced.

As an aside, just for the record, the Canadian Health Care System works for most Canadians.  Does it have its problems?  Sure it does, but its not as broken as some would make you believe.  The Canada Health Act mandates basic required coverage to the Provinces.  Many Canadians have supplementary coverage, which includes prescription drug coverage, ambulatory services and semi private hospital coverage, if available.

I think the US needs an open debate on this, including all interested parties, i.e. insurance companies, HMOs, the States.  Take your time and do it right, don.t get pushed into a bureaucratic quagmire.
