Pfizer Lipitor Recall Expands

Pfizer is recalling an additional 19,000 bottles of Lipitor. The cholesterol-reduction drug was widely recalled earlier this year following reports of a musty odor emanating from the product. The lot number affected by the new Lipitor recall is 0836050 (Lipitor 40mg tablets).

The strange odor accompanying the Lipitor bottles came from TBA, a chemical used to treat the wooden pallets on which the products were shipped. It is inconclusive whether TBA is harmful to humans in the amounts present on the Lipitor bottles, but don't take any chances. If your Lipitor smells funky, take it back.

Pfizer has cited reports of musty or moldy odors emanating from bottles in recalling about 370,000 bottles of Lipitor in three previous alerts beginning in August.

Pfizer said the risk of health problems to Lipitor users appears to be minimal.
