Listeria Found in Packaged Leeks
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued an alert for Les Cultures de Chez Nous packaged leeks because of the possible contamination by the Listeria bacterium.
Packages:
sliced washed leeks 250 grams best before 27 01 09
sliced leeks 750 grams best before 27 01 09
The leeks were distributed in New Brunswick and Quebec.
Do not consume these leeks. Listeria affects people differently and can cause severe illness in those with compromised immune systems. The Listeria bacterium can cause serious problems in a pregnancy.

The best thing is not to buy anything that is sliced up or processed, such as sliced leek / mushroom / salad / etc. It increases the chances of bacteria contamination, for instance if the blade of the knife of food slicer is dirty.

I agree with you Miriam. I think food processors have been incredibly lucky to not have killed a lot of people with their carelessness.
