Maclaren has issued a worldwide stroller recall affecting around a million strollers. Apparently, 12 children have had their fingertips amputated since 1999 by the hinges on the high-end umbrella strollers. If you use a Maclaren umbrella stroller for your child, stop using it.
Maclaren will officially announce the voluntary recall later today or tomorrow, but retailers have already been alerted.
Maclaren has issued a voluntary recall of all umbrella strollers sold since 1999 because of concerns that kids can get their fingertips cut off in a carriage hinge.
Maclaren - maker of the pricey British strollers ubiquitous at playgrounds and on sidewalks across the city - is planning to send owners protective covers for the dangerous hinges.

It took them one decade to react?
Even though it may have been only 12 children reported to have had their fingers amputated since 1999.
I would have though that after the first report they would do some serious investigation and find the defect.

I have the Maclaren Techno XLR and my stroller came with a warning about hinges amputations and it also came with hinge covers. I still dont understand why would you just pop open the stroller if your child is resting his/her little fingers on the hinges?!
