Maria Shriver Files for Divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger
With no chance of a reconciliation, Maria Shriver has officially filed for divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Following a 25-year marriage, the legal filing comes after the couple split in May just days before the action star/politician stunned the world by confessing he had fathered a lovechild with a maid at the family home over a decade ago.
According to TMZ , Shriver filed divorce papers on Friday (July 1), citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind the parting.
The report adds that Maria is asking for spousal support and joint custody of the couple's minor children, Patrick, 17, and Christopher 13.
She has also requested that her cheating ex-husband pay the attorneys fees for both parties, while she is being represented by top divorce lawyer Laura Wasser.
Last month (June 21) Maria Shriver was seen stopping by the hair salon at Barney's New York in Beverly Hills, California.
The 55-year-old estranged wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger was seen chatting on her cell, wearing a jean jack and multi-colored dress as she headed into her afternoon appointment.
According to RadarOnline, Maria is receiving "a significant amount of child support" from Arnold - adding that the former California governor is also "paying for his sons, Patrick and Christopher's private school bills."
A source close to the agreement revealed the details, telling, "Even though Maria is a Kennedy, and has inherited a great deal of money from her parent's estate since their deaths, she is taking the child support. Under California law she is entitled to the child support, once either one of them files for divorce. Maria and Arnold's lawyers have been working on a divorce settlement but in the meantime Arnold is willingly paying the money to Maria."
Following their split, TMZ published the shocking revelation that Schwarzenegger and Shriver had not signed a prenuptial agreement at the time of their marriage.
With the Terminator star's wealth estimated at somewhere around $400 million, his soon to be ex-wife stands to earn half--$200 million--under state law.
