Medical Marijuana : A safer alternative for treating ADD in children
One of the hardest mountains to climb with regard to the healing powers of cannabis is social acceptability and an awareness of the advances in science that make this drug effective in treating conditions where conventional medicine has failed to produce lasting results rather than a band-aid for conditions and symptoms.
Behind the scenes of this controversial herb, pharmaceutical companies have effectively produced many alternative delivery methods which provide a safer method of ingestion other than smoking. Pill form, inhalants, baked goods such as bread and cookies as well as creams and liquid spray are all being tested and re-tested to assure safe dosage and minimal side effects.
When we are exposed to seriously ill patients who have embraced cannabis for therapy it helps to change our lack of understanding of this powerful medication.
Lets hope we can come to understand through exposure on Now Public and many other media outlets that smart, creative, beautiful people are dealt life debilitating setbacks which need out of the box thinking to present life changing opportunities.
Press-on, but do it with care.

I believe it's wrong to legalize marijuana and especially giving it to children no matter what the method is. Marijuana is highly addictive as I was a user for 20 years. I was also prescribed Ritialin as a kid and I would agree that drugging a child is the worse thing that anyone could do. There are alternative treatments that do not require drugging your child to treat ADHD. Fortunately for me I was able break the addiction of marijuana and ritialin and live a productive life.

You were not addicted. You were "Using other methods", to combat your ADD. THC is not a "Drug", unless it is manufactured. The "Other methods", also use "Other natural drugs/chemicals", in an attempt to give your body what it "Needs" to function.
Cannaboids are safe for kids and adults. It is smoking marijuana that is non-medical, which can present issues. (Still not as harmful as most alternatives on the market.)
Kids would not be given 20% THC "Chronic", for treatment. They would be given a "Prescribed and safe", level, which is enough to regulate the debilitating condition of ADD, which causes dropouts, breeds criminal thoughts, without a loss of the natural creativity they posses.
Marijuana is NOT addictive. There is no chemical dependency, only psychological desire to feel normal. That is not addiction. Addiction makes you stop at nothing, to get more. If you think you were "Addicted", it is just that... a thought. You have no idea what real addiction is.
However, there is a chance that you were smoking "Laced" marijuana. So you would have been addicted to the coke/crack/pcp, or whatever they added to keep you coming back for more. That is what you get, when you are forced to make your purchases from drug dealers, who NEED you addicted to this cheap non-addictive substance, when you are afraid to try the hard drugs they offer, they sneak them in.
Grow up, this is the situation the government created, when they made it illegal, knowing that kids/teens try it. They knowingly placed your kids/teens into drug-dealers hands, and pulled them out of your view. They turned them into liars, criminals, uncontrollable, underground, crack-lambs. As opposed to investigating the real issue. Parents with no control, bad parenting skills, failure to treat treatable disorders, inability to afford the required treatments, and creating laws against affordable treatments that have been used for thousands of years.

your addiction was not weed my friend, it was all those pills they gave you as a child, i to have ADD an they wanted me to load up on pills but refused, pot is not addictive an never has been or will be, the fact that you smoked it for 20 years just means you abused it an used it as a social an party favor.
I have studied the efect on add an adhd with pot for quite some time an ahs a far better effect than loading are children or adults with coca cause lets face it, thats what all those pills are made from.

marijuana is not an addictive substance. less than 1% of marijuana smokers smoke marijuana on a daily bases. lets think of the people who are under the age of 20 and smoke cigarettes, they don't smoke a cigarette every other day. at the least 1 pack every other day, if not a pack a day. so why should tobacco be legal and marijuana not? marijuana actually commits to help with cancer and chemo. alcohol creates deaths and liver problems, marijuana over dose= 0. not one case ever has been reported for the overdose of marijuana. marijuana effects the frontal part of the parietal lobe in the brain, (it calms it down), when you look at a persons brain who has A.D.D. they have too much activity in the parietal lobe. by giving the patient marijuana(not only can be smoked but either through baked foods, or pills) it will stimulate the frontal part of the lobe and as good if not better than doctors prescribed medicine such as adderall, concerta, or ritalin.

Hello everyone i have been doing alot of research on this subject... I personally have never been diagnosed with ADD but in looking at all the symptoms I am convinced I have it.... Anyway I was introduced to MJ when I was very young, at the time it was just another way to party but I did use it everyday.... I stopped using daily when I turned 18 but not completely... Every chance I got I made sure I got a hit or two... which wasnt that often... Then about a little over a year ago I started using again every day.... No I never got stoned I would just have a hit or two and I always did it by myself.... Noone else around me knew that I was smoking.....I really dont understand why everytime I had MJ I was more focused, I got more accomplished in a shorter period of time, I was calm, I always had good conversation, my creative thinking was awesome... (Writing songs, playing guitar etc... ) I could go on and on about how wonderful things are when I have MJ.... But the reason I am here posting a comment now is because I have stopped using again and I am constantly searching to fill that emptyness... I am taking vitamins, amino acids, other herbs, trying to eat better and exercise.... And Im still searching.... Anyway I just wanted to share my story... Oh and another thing I wanted to add, regardless of the altenatives to treat ADD/ADHD the doctors are still prescribing amphetamines and parents are still giving it to there kids... The way I see it MJ is a God given herb and I would rather give that to my kids, in a form other than smoking, than to give them all of the man made sythetic drugs that have far more side effects....

I have been self-medicating for around forty years. When I run out I don't feel odd or "jones" for it, I simply do not feel stoned. I return to my natural state of being that has been the same since the earliest of my memories. That is, anxious, stressed, an over pleaser compensating for whatever it is that I do that seems to annoy everyone around me and, unable to focus because my brain is like a pinball machine with multiple thoughts careening wildly.
I can count on one hand the number of days in my fifty two years that I have had a feeling of natural relaxation and stillness in my mind without the aid of medication. Although I began consuming pot as a recreational activity in my teens and, by the way, did not find it a gateway to harder drugs like ritalin/cocaine (and neither did my cohorts who had virtually all stopped using pot by their mid-thirties), I eventually noticed a correlation with smaller dosages, a couple of puffs and, my attention span improving.
It was such a significant improvement that I began "dosing" when attention needed to be assured such as, when I wrote exams at university and later, when I had to produce time sensitive projects professionally, and even when debating complex issues I was able to accord my opponents arguments a more thoughtful and mindful consideration.
Academics were a breeze for me as I found learning interesting. ADD folk can hyperfocus on things that are of interest to them, but could be disadvantaged in testing situations because the anxiety would set off the multitude of thoughts that would cause distraction.
People think that we smoke to get high but that is not what happens when it is used as medication in the long term. If I want to enjoy pot recreationaly I need to interrupt my dosing for several days to get the effect of feeling high. This raises another observation that ,as with ritalin, it is a holiday medication. That is, interrupting dosing results in no harmful effects. I don't mind my symptoms when I don't require that kind of focus.
Finally I would like to say that, as well as being outraged that some dimwits would deny the medical benefits of THC to individuals suffering the often debilitating effects of ADD, as well as, other well documented health issues that have been well established to benefit from this medication, because it derives from marijuana and unlike conventional treatments, has no toxic side effects but, it is just peachy keen to treat an obscene number of children with Ritalin which is derived from cocaine. I may have ADD but I still know seriously flawed logic when I see it.

Hey Catherine it nice to know that I'm not alone... For the longest time I had no idea what ADD was and until now I thought I was insane... Most of my friends had different effects while smoking.. I remember smoking b4 school and ace exams, get so much more done and just really feel comfortable in my skin... I had to quit smoking because my husband will have no parts of it... He does think I'm crazy and every time I try to explain he doesnt want to hear it... So because it is illegal I cant argue, I would never want to put my family in any kind of danger or end up in jail becasue Im taking "meds"... Im trying so hard to find something that is legal and natuaral, that will help me in the same ways that MJ has....So if you or anyone has any suggestions please let me know :)
