An estimated 54% of military personnel returning from combat have PTSD. Some eventually adjust to civilian life, and many never do. The suicide rate for U.S. military personnel and vets is higher than at any time in history. The percentage of soldiers who are diagnosed with PTSD rises with each combat tour of duty. Thousands of vets with PTSD return home and become POWs in American prisons and jails, including many who served in Korea, Viet Nam, and other conflicts.
