Walmart pulled the Miley Cyrus jewelry line from its shelves after the bracelets and necklaces were discovered to contain high levels of cadmium. While cadmium is toxic if taken orally, it does not absorb through the skin. In a press release, Walmart announced it was pulling the Miley Cyrus jewelry line.

Cadmium Exposure Expecially Dangerous to Kids

Cadmium exposure can lead to bone damage and kidney failure, and is carcinogenic, as well as brain-development problems in children.

Walmart removed the entire line of Miley Cyrus jewelry from its shelves shortly after the article quoted below first appeared. However, Walmart said that the Miley Cyrus line was not intended for children, though its unclear what other market exists for such a product.

No "jewelry" item currently exists on the Miley Cyrus-Maz Azria product page on walmart.com.

"We are removing all of the jewelry from sale while we investigate its compliance with our children's jewelry standard," Wal-Mart said.
The AP says Walmart knew of the jewelry’s toxicity since February but continued to sell it anyway. But Walmart has fired back saying the jewelry was “designed for and marketed to older audiences” and was “not intended for children.”
