Nelson Mandela has returned to his Houghton, Johnannesburg home after a stay in hospital. Mandela will receive at-home treatment for a respiratory infection.

A motorcade accompanying the ambulance carrying Nelson Mandela was met with a crowd of journalists outside the house. Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe said in a statement, "[T]here is no need for us to fear for Madiba's health".

He had spent two-and-a-half days in the hospital with what was finally confirmed as a respiratory infection, considered common for a man of 92 with his medical history, by Surgeon General Lieutenant General Vejaynand Ramlakan.
