Food Recall Puts Spotlight Back on FDA

An Ohio company, Nestle Professional North America, is recalling about three tons of product that may have been contaminated with salmonella.  The Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein(HVP) was produced at the same Las Vegas plant, Basic Food Flavors, Inc. that prompted this week's massive recall of processed foods across the continent.

Nestlé Professional North America, a Cleveland, Ohio establishment, is recalling approximately 6,000 pounds of a ready-to-eat (RTE) bacon base product that may be contaminated with salmonella.

Minor's Bacon Base was distributed nationwide in the U.S.  in 1-pound plastic cups labeled
"No illnesses from this bacon product have been reported."

Health Threats of Salmonella

Contamination of food by salmonella does not render it "off" in smell or taste.  Some people would experience only minor discomfort from ingesting salmonella, but vulnerable people can experience life-threatening symptoms.

Salmonella bacteria can be destroyed by thorough cooking.  Food safe techniques such as separation of uncooked meats and vegetables and washing hands and surfaces frequently will reduce the risk of cross contamination.

Eww, no one should eat 'ready to eat' Bacon products in the first place.

I prefer to cook my own and get mine off the slab at my local butcher.

But then, do I really, really have to tell you who one of the worlds biggest supplier of HVP is?  Really? Do I?  Consumers are to blame in all this as they keep voting for morons who care not who poisons us slowly.  Do not count on the media or government to tell you, cause they know which side their money is coming from.

Bon Appetit!
