NP Rank:
NHS ! sex education to Pensioners. Take Viagra.
I so dislike being crude,However it has to be said; there has been many a good tune played on an old fiddle..................but for pensioners to recieve sex education information is in my mind beyond the limits of respect and caring for the elderly.
NHS chiefs are under fire for spending thousands of pounds on a controversial new leaflet encouraging pensioners to boost their sex lives with the help of dating agencies and Viagra.
The 60-page pamphlet has been attacked as an 'obscene' waste of healthcare funds.
It gives details of dating agencies and sexual health clinics and tells over-60s: 'It's never too late to experiment.'
A total of 20,000 copies are being sent out to older people in Medway, Kent, at a cost of £13,700.
It tells women that sex can protect them against heart disease and osteoporosis by boosting their oestrogen, and help against incontinence by toning their pelvic muscles.
The hormones released can help men against heart disease, strengthen their bones and muscles and ease prostrate congestion, the leaflet states.
It warns against just accepting the sexual problems that may arise with age and says: 'Your general practitioner can probably help you, so don't be embarrassed ask for advice.'
Campaigners and pensioners today dismissed the Ageing Well In Medway leaflet as a pointless expense during the economic downturn.

By the time we reach fifty most of us have had sex education, through the school of life. How can anyone justify this recent blunder by our goverment. When the reality really is staring them in the face, our old age pensioners are struggling financially, and their priorities are most certainly not sex. So many old people are unwell and lonely. This latest goverment, not ! so great idea ! will I fear turn out to be a complete waste of money and recourses. Our pensioners need money not Viagra.

Are they in bed with the pharmaceutical companies?

I am not sure what the purpose of this is. ACP made a good point here.

Yes, more than likely ACP.

Oh come on, what's wrong with it? "Sex education through the school of life" does not teach you the health benefits or tell you where sex clinics are. There's also a pervasive myth in our society that 60-year-olds don't have sex, so if you're having sexual difficulties you might very well just assume that it's normal - but sexual dysfunction can be an early warning sign of other physical problems, and should be checked out as early as possible.
The assumption that anybody in our society knows enough about this topic, which is considered highly taboo to discuss, is probably a false one. Besides, Viagra probably helped out with the cost of it.... ;)

Sounds like Big Pharma is on Viagra.

The Viagra will be free so grand dad getting it up is OK - sex clinics as in STDs? Well, with dating agencies and all that rampant humping - they will need it.
If Edward and Ethel need help at this stage in live with the intricacies of a roll in the hay, it could be a bit too late anyway.

I don't know if I'm so outraged about it; I don't really want to think about it yes, but I don't see why just because someone is over 60 that means that part of their life has to end. People in the UK over 60 are considered pensioners, but that to me is far from being considered 'elderly'. Granted they probably didn't have to put that much money towards it, but people over 60 are not ancient and I think they should be allowed access to things like this.
