Nuts can cut heart problems
Just 30g of nuts a day on top of a Mediterranean style diet can cut heart problems. Scientists believe the nuts contain compounds that stop damage caused by insulin.
A Mediterranean diet in itself has been shown to be healthier than other western diets and the addition of nuts to it seems to make it even healthier.
Researchers tested the eating plan on patients with a condition called metabolic syndrome, a group of symptoms including obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and insulin problems.
The syndrome is seen as a early indication that a patient will go on to develop heart disease or diabetes.
Scientists tested the effects of changing the diets of 1,200 patients, two thirds of whom were suffering from the syndrome.
Given different diets for a year, the number with the syndrome fell by 13.7 per cent among those who ate a Mediterranean diet rich in fish, fruit and vegetables as well as 30g of nuts a day.

I wonder if the nuts must be unprocessed or if it makes a difference.

Traditionally British Christmas Stocking toes are stuffed with walnuts, satsumas, and sweets...
These felt walnuts are hand sewn from recycled felt and stuffed by Ouissi of "British Cream Tea" and can be found at http://britishcreamtea.etsy.com

Horse chestnuts are beautiful to look at and have figured in traditional childrens games way back in history. They are a good source of nutrition for animals but unlike sweet chestnuts they are deffinitely not for human consumption.

Delicious walnuts, produce of my own orchard in Mirovtsi, Shumen, Bulgaria. I am 'nuts' about nuts. I am in the process of establishing walnut orchards in 25 acres in Bulgaria. I am happy to engage in consultations with experts in the field.

southern pecan pie
Pecan tree is the state tree of Texas where I reside.
" Tradition holds that the French created pecan pie soon after settling in New Orleans, after being introduced to the nut by Native Americans. It is sometimes referred to as "New Orleans pecan pie," adding an aura of French cuisine to a home-cooked comfort food....." (~ Wikipedia)

Pecans grow so well in the south. It is very unusual for people living in rural areas not to have Pecan Trees. I can remember gathering them when I was knee high!
