The O2 Diet: Can Antioxidants Make You Both Healthy And Slim?

The new O2 diet developed by nutritionist Keri Glassman is promising to make dieters both healthy and slim. The central idea behind the new O2 diet is consumption of antioxidant-rich and whole foods. Unlike the now popular Tapeworm and Cookie Diets that tend to put health second, the advocates of the O2 diet claim the antioxidant diet concentrates on both health and weight loss simultaneously.

The O2 diet focuses around high ORAC level, which stands for oxygen radical absorption capacity. It stresses the consumption of foods packed with antioxidants. So, what are some of the foods rich in antioxidants? The answer is - simple things, such as tomatoes, garlic, blueberries, chia seeds and nuts.

The way antioxidants work is by binding and neutralizing the reactive and potentially dangerous free radicals. Fast food, fat, dairy, eggs and processed food containing preservatives are rich in radicals that can mess up cellular DNA and initiate cancer-forming processes. Disabling free radicals normalizes metabolism. Although free radicals do not directly impact fatty adipose tissues, the foods that contain neutralizing antioxidants are usually low-calorie fresh vegetables and fruit, which is how weight loss is a consequence of eating antioxidant-rich foods.

It’s been 2 weeks since I started the O2 diet and people have been asking me if I lost weight, fell in love with a Romeo, cut my hair… haha! How can I not love reactions like that! I think a big part of it is that fact that I’ve actually started doing something good for my health and stuck with it because it’s easy! Thanks a million Keri!

Wow, what a book! Not only does this diet explain why it would benefit me to go on it- backing up the evidence with research based it also gives me recipes!! I have such a sweet tooth and to be able to start my mornings with either banana-nut butter waffles or caramelized pear and pecan french toast is the best diet i will ever venture into. I had a bad habit of skipping breakfast on most days due to lack of options or ideas but now I am on the right track to a healthier me!
