12% of young people in Britain feel life is not worth living according to a report published by the Prince's Trust. That's more than 1 in 10 of UK children.

47% of young people said that they were regularly stressed.

This will further support the calls for better social and emotional education lessons in schools though others feel that schools can't solve problems that are caused by faults that cut through society including family life.

One in ten young people in Britain think life is not worth living, a report published today has claimed.

Of 2,000 16- to 25-year-olds surveyed for the Prince’s Trust, 12% said their life was “meaningless”, whilst 14% thought “life has no purpose”. One in five felt like crying “often” or “always” and nearly half (47%) felt regularly stressed.

The worst affected were those not in education, employment or training (Neets). Thirty seven per cent of Neets polled claimed to be down or depressed compared to 27% of all those surveyed by polling body YouGov.

So sad to read this.

Sounds about right. The sentiment I mean. No one here gets out alive.

I am amazed it isn't 100 percent: the UK is a pretty crappy place. Over-crowded, too expensive, chaotic, dirty, and violent.

Its so bad that thousands of people every year look to come to the UK to escape violence and war - it has some of the characteristics you mention but most people (like everywhere) are essentially good.

This is very sad news. I wonder how these statistics (and sentiments) would compare with other countries in the world.

This is too bad to read. I don't think young people should be "stressed out"; this is a time in your life where you should be carefree, feel supported and able to discover what you want out of life. I've always wanted to visit the UK but it sounds like there are greener pastures...

I think the only time I was stressed out when I was young(er) was at Uni. To be honest, worst 3 years for me! But school and college I loved my time and never really felt stressed.
