Parkers Farm, Recalls Several Products Listeria Contamination

Parker Farm Inc. is cooperating with the FDA in a widespread recall of products because of the possible contamination by Listeria bacteria.  These products have been distributed throughout the United States.

Some products were sold under the Parkers Farm or Parkers label.  The products under the Parker label include peanut butter, bagel spreads, cheese products and salsa. The FDA page carries a complete description.

At this time, there are no reported illnesses associated with these food products.  The Listeria bacteria were detected in some of the finished products when sampling was conducted.
Listeria bacteria can cause serious illnesses leading in some cases to death.  Pregnant women are especially vulnerable to Listeria and the bacteria may cross the placental barrier to infect the fetus, resulting in death or serious infection.

If you have these products do not consume them.  Return them to the store where you bought them.  You cannot tell if the food products in question have Listeria bacteria in them by smelling or tasting them.
