Pet Carousel Dog Treats Subject to Salmonella Alert
Pet Carousel dog treats made from pigs' ears and cattle hooves are subject to a Salmonella alert. Some samples taken by the FDA in September showed the presence of the bacteria. Description follows.
The affected pig ear products were packaged under the brand names Doggie Delight and Pet Carousel. The affected beef hooves were packaged under the brand names Choo Hooves, Dentley’s, Doggie Delight, and Pet Carousel. All sizes and all lots of these products made by Pet Carousel are included in this alert.
During September 2009, the FDA conducted routine testing of pig ears and cattle hooves made into pet treats by Pet Carousel. The test results detected a positive reading for Salmonella. This prompted an FDA inspection of Pet Carousel’s manufacturing facilities. During the inspection, the agency collected additional pet treat samples. Further analysis found Salmonella present in beef hooves, pig ears and in the manufacturing environment.
Hazard: Salmonella bacteria are harmful to both humans and pets. Cross contamination by handling the contaminated pet treats can occur. If your pet has consumed any of the described pet treats produced by Pet Carousel you are advised to contact your veterinarian for advice.
Fix: Do not handle the questionable pet treats with your bare hands. Dispose of them safely in a secure garbage can.

Thanks for highlighting this issue, our dogs love their pigs ears but we always wash our hands after feeding them. I didn't think they represented a threat to pets though. I thought dogs were resistant to such bugs. Thanks againRay
