Pittsburgh man receives first US double hand transplant

A Pittsburgh man is recovering in hospital after receiving the first ever US double hand transplant. The 57-year-old is currently stable, and lost both of his hands to a bacterial infection.
In March, the hospital performed its first hand transplant on a Marine who lost his right hand during a training exercise in Quantico, Va.
This is the first surgery of its kind in the US, but overseas, eight have been performed, including a partial face and double hand transplant at the same time.
