Planned Parenthood says Give the Gift of Abortion for Christmas
As people through out the world Celebrate the Birth of Jesus the Christ, Planned Parenthood is offering Gift Certificates for All services including Abortion. Planned Parenthood wanting to participate in the Christian Holiday by offering what seems to be a way to mock the Christian Holiday. I mean what better way to celebrate a birth with a gift for an Abortion?
They call it a "gift," but some would rather opt for a lump of coal.
A number of Planned Parenthood clinics in Indiana and Illinois are offering gift certificates for their services this Christmas.
Officials say the vouchers enable people to give their loved ones "the gift of life" — that would help pay for annual checkups and birth control — but also can be used for abortions.Chrystal Struben-Hall with Planned Parenthood of Indiana said the idea is a response to economic woes that have forced many women to put health care at the bottom of their to-do list.
"People are making really tough decisions about putting gas in their car and food on their table," Struben-Hall said.
A number of religious and pro-life groups are outraged, saying that at a time when millions are preparing to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, Planned Parenthood is offering a gift that could fund an abortion.
"They can and will be used to end the lives of children at Christmas," said Cathy Ruse of the Family Research Council. She believes the gift certificates will anger many, even those who are not deeply religious. "A coupon for abortion at Christmastime?" Ruse said. "That’s just inherently offensive, I think, to all Americans."
Planned Parenthood of Indiana said the gift certificates will be especially useful in a state where, they say, 800,000 people are uninsured or cannot afford basic care.
Even the state’s Health Commissioner is calling the certificates a "really meaningful gift."
Christmas controversy is not new to Planned Parenthood. In the mid-1990s it began offering "Choice on Earth" holiday cards. The American Life League called the twist on the "peace on earth" message found in the New Testament book of Luke bigoted "mockery."
Give the Gift of Health This Holiday Season
Looking for an unusual, yet practical gift this holiday season? Planned Parenthood of Indiana (PPIN) is now offering gift certificates for services or the recipient’s choice of birth control method. The gift certificates can be purchased online in increments of $25 or for any amount at some of PPIN’s 35 health centers. Contact your local health center to see if they offer the certificates.
The gift certificates can be given to women and men to cover essential services like screenings and birth control. Services such as annual exams for women, which include breast exams and Pap tests, typically cost $58.
“Nearly 800,000 Hoosiers don’t have health insurance and can’t afford basic health services. Why not buy a loved one a gift this holiday season that they really need and one that will contribute to their health throughout the year?" asked PPIN President and CEO Betty Cockrum. “The gift certificates are also a wonderful idea for that person in your life who puts everyone else first and has been putting off taking care of her or his own health. Now, there’s no excuse for those people in your life not to get the basic health care that they need."
This is the first holiday season that PPIN has offered gift certificates. They can be redeemed at any of the 35 PPIN health centers around the state, no matter where they were purchased.
These gift certificates are not just for the uninsured people in your life. PPIN does take some forms of insurance and the gift certificates could be used for co-pays or medication. Please join Planned Parenthood of Indiana and give the gift of health this holiday season.

Great article. What Planned Parenthood wants is to give the gift of murder for Christmas. I have visited areas where they showed that the fetus is a live human being from the womb. I would also like to add that Abortion eventually leads to Mass Murder.

Viva female reproductive rights. If you want mass murder just elect a conservative.
George Carlin:
"Boy these conservatives are really something aren't they? They're all in favor of the unborn. They will do anything for the unborn. But once you're born you're on your own...Pro life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to 9 months. After that they dont want to know about you. They dont want to hear about you. No nothing! No neo-natal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare...no nothing. If you're pre born you're fine...Pre-school you're F$%#ed. Conservatives dont give a S@$t about you until you reach military age. Then they think you are just fine, just what they've been looking for. Conservatives want lives babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers." George Carlin.

Like the death penalty, abortion is LEGALIZED MURDER. Thanks for posting this story, politisite.
at 15:06 on November 28th, 2008
Rhonda,
I was once a pro-life pro death penalty. Following research, I noticed that the scales of justice are not blind. Too many people of color, poor, and others are on death row... where the rich seem to have an acquittal rate above the norms. I took a head look at this as I was deep GOP. I began departing from many GOP stances in this regard as those sales should be blind and the scale should not be tilted by money. I am now against the death penalty until the justice system can show that black, white, indian, and asians all have the same outcomes based on evidence.
I guess to Kill a Mockingbird had an effect on me.
Since our government passes from the people to the Govt. If one innicient man dies it is on my sholdiers.

politisite, the decision to oppose the death penalty was one of the more difficult decisions I have made in my life-time. Particularly when one reads the alleged crimes a death row inmate is accused of. Nevertheless, even though it is true that, "Too many people of color, poor, and others are on death row... where the rich seem to have an acquittal rate above the norms." I would oppose it even if the law was applied equally across class--an "eye for an eye" just doesn't cut it with me. It solves absolutely nothing!

While I won't wade into the discussion of choice, but I will write that having known two nurse practitioners at the Manhattan Planned Parenthood and their works focus on providing health care services to women free or on a scaled fee system.
The center also provides health care services to men. These women have told me that there are working freelancers who don't have health benefits and they've come to the center for check-ups; and the center also offers referrals to women to receive mammograms from affiliated medical centers. In many instances, these women don't have to pay for the expensive mammograms based on PPH's referrals and assessment of income.
at 15:09 on November 28th, 2008
No one has attacked the credentials of the workers at PP. Their are other groups who provide services for free as well.
at 09:41 on November 28th, 2008
Women have struggled for years to have control over their bodies. Those of us who are old enough remember the whispers about a 'nurse' or a 'doctor' who for a fee would perform a back alley abortion. Some women were so desperate they would stick an unbent coat hanger into their uterus to abort the unwanted embryo. Would a civilized society wish to return to that? We are talking about pro-choice and anti-choice here not pro-life. It looks as if the anti-choice people also wish to prevent women from accessing life saving services like breast cancer screening and pap tests. Not a very loving attitude in this Season.

Barbara I'm not for or against abortion, but I am a supporter of a woman's right to choose because other wise we would return to those dark days of back street abortions when many women died or became infected, and then died.
Some of these same Christians have also supported the killings in Iraq and Afghanistan which far out number the number of terminations. The same Christians who support the death penalty. A very confusing picture.
at 23:35 on December 4th, 2008
The numbers of those who died via abortion and the numbers of Iraq deaths is a statistic you cannot substantiate. The article is not about the legality of Abortion it is about the audacity of PP to use Christmas a a money drive for abortion advocacy. PP relates that it is for many of their service that are advertised as free. So why the need for a cerificate? Folks would get free healthcare through a local health department.

Although I find an abortion gift certificate a bit our of line I, like you Barbara, Ido think that women have the right to chose. Not everyone gets pregnant in a loving way, for instance. There are so many women in this world who get pregnant as a result of rape or incest. I find it personally inhumane to force these women to carry the fruit of violence, as it disables them from coming to terms with what happened to them. And what about the child? I know people who have been conceived during a rape, and to them it is extremely tough to live with the idea that they were born out of one of the cruelest acts one can think of.
I have also interviewed women who have had a back door abortion. Some of them got infections, and are not able to conceive ever again. This could have been prevented if they could have gotten proper medical care.
I am not saying that abortion is per definition good. But one should understand that there are very very strict rules when it comes to abortion. It is not as if you can walk in and have it removed at any given moment.

This is weird - I would not feel ok giving or receiving an abortion gift certificate.
at 11:24 on November 28th, 2008
Me neither. But there is a difference between getting a certificate and having a choice on what to do. I feel that these certificates are not the way forward. But that does not mean abortion should be banned either ...
at 11:29 on November 28th, 2008
I agree - a certificate is just an option, but not having to make a choice. I almost feel like it trivializes the seriousness of a decision like that, as a gift certificate just makes people think of going to the mall or something... it's so odd.
at 14:40 on November 28th, 2008
I think that is more of the spirit of the article. While I understand that there are folks in America who are not Christians and to them it is just another day, the majority of American celebrate Christmas a Holly day. This article focus on the Gall of PP to use a Christian Holiday as a means to promote Their services. If, as many folks here say, PP offers free services, why then the need for Gift Certificates. PP is not the only game in town, many other groups offer free services.
I am aware that Abortion is legal in America. I intentionally used an article from the Right side of the argument to show how unfeeling this group can be. Had PP did this for a Muslim Holiday, or Kwanzaa, or some other non Christian religious activities the outrage would be heard throughout the world.
Some have offered that PP offers safe services and that is the case. The issue here is that one should throughly read their websites that tout teen sexual experience as normal and provides information for young teens.
When we speech of Privacy, One should consider it as a private matter then and not high jack a Holiday that is consumed by those who are against the practice. If anyone cannot see the mockery of the Holiday here, one is very much like those who, against there own Parental responsibility vote for Kids to get abortions without parental consent, where PP officials take the role of the family to illuminate family involvement. If ones teen is getting pregnant, there is a family issue, and families should be involved. The same family member that don't want any restrictions on abortion even for those under the age of consent demand family involvement in any other medial procedure, getting ears pierced and minor medical involvement,
How many sexual predators use PP as a means to keep family members out of the loop on their Abuse.
Remember this is the same group that I wrote an article about that would allow donors to designate an Abortion for a minority group no matter the motivation of the giver.
Again, Many of us Accept that Abortion is legal. The issue is not the legality in this article. It is the audacity of this group to use a holiday that celebrates Birth.
I appreciate all of your comments and will not rebut any of them here. I am hopeful the conversation will remain civil and that readers will attack the content of the article, not the writer or those who make comments. Lets make sure that all views are allowed and each with respect.
The first amendment should be preserved here and all should be allowed to post their views. The first amendment also provides for religious freedom but in recent years, folks have tried to minimize a faiths ability to freely exercise their faith in the public forourn. PP should find another holiday to problegate their pro-chioce adgenda. C'mon, leave Christmas along.
I am also aware that this issue takes a back seat to the terror and death occuring in Mumbai. My prayers are with the dead (families) and the injured. I am hoeful the terrorists do not get their desired outcome. I heard today that it is not Just the US... But Canada, AU, Japan, and others who have suffered along with man Hindus. I pray that we can use our anger appropritlty.

Not arguing the ban here... just the holiday the folks used to promote
at 23:38 on December 4th, 2008
No one advocated in this article banning abortion. But how about get a loved one a certificate for a nice dinner. Much less emotions associated with getting a gift certificate for Target or Walmart.
at 18:51 on December 11th, 2008
Fewer emotions are assigned to gift certificates to those stores unless someone is PAYING ATTENTION. There's another hypocracy someone against abortion who shops and box stores feeding into world environmental desctruction and the enslavement of fully grown human beings! I think we better learn how to treat the born before we get on a high horse for the unborn!

I wish the rest of the world was more like B.C
Abortions should be free. no questions asked.

For the love of god i wish the world was like BC too! Donnie looking for an American wife by any chance!? I should start an adopt an american program. lol! I think we should have been able to seek political asylum from the bush administration!

Although I am pro-life, I do support a woman's right to choice. Nevertheless, the idea that Planned Parenthood would choose to offer Gift Certificates (and at this time of year), I find rather repulsive. No mistake should be made, as I stated earlier, like the death penalty, abortion is legalized murder.
Planned Parenthood made "unprecedented revenues and increased the number of abortions over a one year period by the largest percentage since 1996."

Rhonda:
That was the point.. timing for the offer.
at 15:17 on November 28th, 2008
I understand that, politisite. Thank you again for posting the story!
at 23:38 on November 28th, 2008
let's see: about 4000 abortions EVERY DAY in America! (9-11-01 daily)
i'm pretty sure Jesus keeps trying to come back, and He keeps getting aborted.
i guess we don't deserve world peace.
at 00:43 on December 5th, 2008
Hopefully He is not trying to be born. I am looking for him to come in the clouds... Global warming may be a problem in that descent. Thankfully he is the Lord able to transcend the creation. Lucky us!
at 09:13 on November 29th, 2008
What sensationalism.
When I was young and didn't have money to go to the doctors, Planned Parenthood gave me free health checkups and also birth control.
Then, years later, when I could afford it, I still went to them and paid full price for their services.
Thanks for this information.
I will buy a gift certificate so my daughter can get her yearly checkup at the clinic.
Thanks!

Oh please! Planned Parenthood isn't stamping angels and Santa all over these gift certificates (which they are 100% entitled to give just as any other business would). Besides, in hard economics times practical gifts, such as the gift of good health care, are needed. Your article has encouraged me to buy several.
