Recalled Melamine Milk Products (List Ongoing)
We are still waiting for the WHO or some other health organization to release a comprehensive list of all recalled products tainted with melamine, but until then here is an updated list compiled from various sources on the internet. Products will be added here as updates occur.
Please keep in mind that mass confusion persists around this issue; many companies are protesting the findings of government testing, while others are finding melamine in products that were previously approved by some governments. Even products that don't use dairy have been recalled - the melamine scandal includes other related ingredients such as whole milk powder, non-fat milk powder, whey powder, lactose powder, and casein.
While many of the brands listed below are available worldwide, so far it appears that mostly Asian products are affected - therefore if you live in Europe or North America, your Snickers bar is probably safe to eat. For now.
UPDATE NOTE: October 27, 2008
In Hong Kong, the range of testing has been expanded from dairy-related products to include eggs and meat products as well. The brand of eggs which was shown to contain high levels of melamine is reflected in the list below, but here is some more information on the matter:
Hong Kong Food and Health Secretary York Chow said the melamine might have come from feed given to the chickens that laid the eggs."The preliminary opinion experts have given us is that there is a problem with the feed," Chow told reporters Saturday.
The egg results have prompted officials to expand food testing to all meat imports from China, Chow told reporters Sunday. He said Hong Kong officials will step up checks of eggs imported from China. Calls to Dalian Hanwei Enterprise Group, based in the northeastern port city Dalian, went unanswered Sunday.
This most recent news story emphasizes the fact that the scope of melamine contamination is wide spread, but to an extent which we cannot yet determine or even predict. I would advise consumers to use the utmost caution when purchasing ALL of their groceries, not just dairy products.
North American products are italicized; the rest are products that have been recalled in Asia only - I haven't gone into detail by country because it is highly possible the products have been exported throughout Asia.

This was the last one on the shelf at my local Safeway. I was actually looking for a particular Dove Chocolate bar but they didn't have it. This was the most photogenic equivalent they had. (image by Michael White Photography)

This is getting hard to keep track on. A very long list is becoming now.

More than 6,200 infants have become sick and four babies have died in China after being fed baby formula laced with melamine, a banned industrial chemical. I think that the children at least MUST be defended, we must garantee them a sure future... but how if the men continue to commit errors like this?

Terri Potratz, I like this story. It's good stuff. Absolutely astounding! This problem obviously isn't just in China. Thanks for the list.

Terri Potratz, I like this story. It's good stuff. That is one long list...

let's say this one of those bad days at school. i felt really down so in my last class, my teacher was handing out chocolates. i opened it, not really much payed attention to the message and ate the chocolate. a couple of minutes later when i looked down, i read the message and just starting thinking randomly; by the end of the day, i felt much better and you know what they say: chocolate can make you feel like you're in love :)

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to eat, distribute or sell Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold milk chocolate coins imported from China.
The candy is being recalled after testing positive for the industrial chemical melamine. Canadian food standards do not define it as a food ingredient.
The candy is sold in 840-gram containers containing 240 pieces per container. They bear the designation UPC 0 36077 11240 7 and the lot code 1928S1.
Among the vendors that carried this product is wholesale giant Costco.

Yes, the list is long. Well, basically all u gotta do for the time being is abstain from any products originating from China. Tht makes life less complicated
at 17:29 on October 9th, 2008
@ Angel30, if the product clearly has "Made in China", it would be very easy for everyone.
The tricky part is that, a product made elsewhere (e.g, Europe) but the raw material or the ingredients were sourced from China.
at 12:53 on October 12th, 2008
Yes this type of loophole in labeling policies is very problematic. The only solution I can think of would be to buy raw ingredients locally and make our own food from scratch, which is what people should try to be doing as often as possible anyway!
at 01:09 on October 17th, 2008
I agree totally. This is the main concern for everyone, as milk products are in a multitude of foods and source of products is never written on the packets. The usual wording is, "made in your own local country from imported and local products." Consumers are in a very vulnerable position thesedays!

i just came from hongkong on sept 29 n bought a bag of assorted chocolate n candies from Aji Ichiban store at the airport. some contained twix made US. Cadbury hazelnut and mint chips. some italy chocolate. it was packed in hongkong but the assortment was from places who make the chocolate. i have written to the company twice but still no response. i was wondering if some of thsoe chocolates that were recalled so i avoid and some can we still eat?
at 12:57 on October 12th, 2008
If it were me, I would toss the chocolate. Your health is worth more than eating potentially contaminated products...why take the risk?

Terri Potratz, I like this story. It's good stuff. Swiss authorities have found that biscuits in Thailand and Sri Lanka have tested positive for melamine and should be withdrawn. From Thailand Milk Cookies S & P and from Sri Lanka candies Lemon Puff Munchee. These products have been sold in Europe.
at 21:50 on October 14th, 2008
Edna chocolate has been banned at Sri Lanka. Manchi biscuits also banned at Swizerland.

This morning a new recall for the melamine laced products: Haofine International Trading Inc. is recalling Mengniu Strawberry Flavour Sour Milk Beverage. This has been distributed in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

When will it end??!
Thanks - list updated.

i was wondering is M&M's affected the U.S. or is it only the asian countries?
at 10:19 on October 21st, 2008
M&M's in the US should be ok, as the affected candies were produced in China and distributed in Asia only, according to reports.
at 14:51 on October 19th, 2008
Apparently in Panama testing is still going on. They have recalled:
White Rabbit Caramels
Orange and Strawberry Sandwich Cookies
Milk Bars

what about jolly cow low-fat milk? it says it is longlife ultra heated skim milk. milk fat maximum = 0.1g/100ml. milk solids non-fat minimum = 8.5g/100ml.
i have seen jolly cow slender low-fat milk before in the market which has been found to have melamine.
pls advise. tx.
at 10:16 on October 21st, 2008
Personally, I would err on the side of caution and not consume any products from any of the companies/brands that have been recalled.
The levels of melamine that are being found in these products supposedly won't affect healthy adults, but at the end of the day you're essentially drinking plastic. I don't think researchers have completed studies into how this will affect adults in the long run.

This should make for a fun halloween. It's really hard to tell what chocolate is from what lot when it's distributed in fun-size pieces. And all foil-wrapped chocolates look the same! I think it's a good reason to just toss those cheap foil pseudo-chocolates anyway, I never did like the taste of them to begin with.
Maybe trick-or-treaters can just ask for gift cards to walgreens and buy their own candy instead?

I have a Tassimo single Serve Coffee maker and was wondering if anyone knows about the milk they use in their discs for Latte and Cappaccino? I have emailed the company and have not gotten a responce.
at 10:29 on October 28th, 2008
Fishin,
Tassimo is owned by Kraft Foods, and so far I haven't heard anything about Kraft or it's coffee-related subsidiary brands (Nabob, Tazo, Seattle's Best Coffee, Maxwell House, etc). I would guess that you're probably ok, but if you have tried contacting the company and they haven't responded I would be pretty angry as a consumer. Companies have a responsibility to address public concerns, especially during a time like this where there is so much confusion, and it surprises me that they don't even have a safety assurance or notice on their website. That would be enough to drive me away as a customer, personally.

Can you please let me know if Nestley Milo is contaminated with Melamine, I am from Sri Lanka and the government is not making any effort to warn the public of the denagers of Melamine, most children in Sri Lanka drink Milo on a daily basis.
