Good advice! The problem with Salmon however is that a lot of it is farm-raised. Also, throughout the U.S. it is virtually impossible to get anchovies and herring other than in cans and jars and as such they are loaded with sodium and packed in oils (other than olive oil) that are not good for you. Mackerel can be purchases over the "fresh fish" counter, however.

Not to mention Mercury. there is a reason health advisories say one fish a week.

Salmon and other fish high in Omega-3s are also a great source of protein without the risks associated with high levels of saturated fats present in many cuts of meat. Many people who have diabetes and struggle with weight management find these fish a valuable dietary option.
We write extensively about related issues at http://dentistryfordiabetics.com/blog, especially the links between elevated blood sugar and gum disease that can interfere with diabetes control and significantly increase risk of serious health events such as heart attack, stroke and blindness.
