Relay For Life
Every year communities across South Carolina hold Relay For Life to support the efforts of the American Cancer Society. Relay is a chance for us to support our local cancer survivors, remember the family and friends we have lost to cancer, and raise money to fund cancer research.
Up All Night For A Cure
Relay For Life is an overnight gathering of the community to fight against cancer. To commemorate those who battle cancer 24 hours a day, the Relay teams take turns walking all night. While the team members break from walking, there are plenty of events and actives to enjoy.
Survivors Are the Stars
Survivors of cancer hold a special place at Relay For Life events. Their presence is a powerful statement that cancer can be beaten. Each Relay begins with the Survivors Walk, in which cancer Servivors take center stage in the first lap. Survivors, and those who are currently fighting cancer, continue to be featured though out the night.
There is Hope
One of the highlights of Relay for Life is the Luminaria Ceremony (or the Ceremony of Hope). The lighting of the Luminarias is a time to remember all those who fought cancer. Each Luminaria represents a person whose life was touched by cancer. Many Luminarias are decorated with photos and drawings to celebrate the person who battled cancer.
