Rolaids Recall 2010: Wood And Metal Bits Prompts McNeil Health Care ( Johnson & Johnson) To Issue Rolaids Softchews Recall

Johnson and Johnson has issued a recall for all its Rolaids Softchews after consumers reports of wood and metal particles.

The voluntary recall comes less than a month after the company issued another voluntary recall over a type of Rolaids product in the United States and Canada.

The products include Rolaids Extra Strength Softchews, Rolaids Extra Strength plus Gas Softchews and Rolaids Multi-Symptom plus Anti-Gas Softchews. The company says the materials were potentially introduced into the products during the manufacturing process at an outside manufacturer.

This is not the first time that Johnson and Johnson, a New Brunswick, New Jersey based company, has issued a Rolaids recall.

The recall is the latest in a string of pulled products for J&J's McNeil consumer unit that has drawn attention from U.S. authorities and Congress, hurt sales and tarnished J&J's reputation....

On November 23, McNeil announced it was recalling 71,000 packages of a cherry flavored, extra-strength version of Rolaids following consumer complaints of "an uncharacteristic consistency or texture" that was linked to crystallized sugar.

Earlier this month, it also pulled 12 million bottles of its widely used over-the-counter heartburn medicine Mylanta after omitting small amounts of alcohol from the product's label.
