(8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday to Friday).
There have been no reported illnesses associated with these salad greens, but do not eat them. Take them back to the store where you bought them.
You can't smell or taste the Salmonella bacteria. Food contaminated with it will not smell 'off'. Some people are hardly affected by Salmonella but others may suffer life threatening illness. There may be long term effects of salmonellosis and even death.
Salmonella bacteria are often associated with poultry products and more lately with beef. The bacterium may be harboured by birds and turtles without the carrier showing any symptoms. This has promted some municipalities to ban the selling of turtles within their juristictions.
Salmonella bacteria are destroyed by the heat of cooking.
