The CFIA in conjunction with The Grocery People have issued a Salmonella alert for Ocean Mist Green Onions.  These green onions are sold in plastic bags and have been sold in Manitoba and may have been distributed to Ontario, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.
Description follows:

The affected product, Ocean Mist brand Fresh Picked Green Onions, was sold in 5.5 oz. plastic bags bearing a sticker with "95ONCP7G BEST BY 083109" and UPC 33383 60503, between August 15 and September 3, 2009.

Hazard:  possible contamination by Salmonella bacteria.  You cannot tell by looking at or smelling food if it has been spoiled by Salmonella bacteria.  Young children, elderly and immune compromised people are most at risk for serious illness from ingesting Salmonella bacteria.
Fix:  take the onions back to the vendor where you purchased them.
On August 28, the FDA issued a precautionary, voluntary recall of nearly 2 000 Ocean Mist Farms green onions.
It is possible that a small amount of product may have already been purchased by consumers and therefore anyone who has purchased any of the following products with the trace back codes listed below should dispose of the product. For additional information, consumers can visit www.oceanmist.com.
