Mars Petcare is recalling pet food products manufactured at its Everson, Pa., facility because of a potential salmonella contamination. In addition to being dangerous for pets, the pet food could sicken people who handle the food.

The voluntary recall of all products was implemented after two people became infected with salmonella.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.  Animals can be carriers with no visible symptoms and can potentially infect other animals or humans.

Potentially affected products include Pedigree, Country Acres, Doggy Bag, Members Mark, Natural, Ol' Roy, Paws & Claws, Pet Pride, PMI Nutrition, Red Flannel, Retriever, Special Kitty, and Wegman's.  For a complete list with UPC numbers, please see the FDA recall list.

The recall only affects products within the US.

Thanks for using my photo! I originally thought of the odd idea of taking a photograph of dog food, because my dog, Maxine, recently passed away and this is the only food she would ever eat, so, its in memory of her! thanks! - Rachel Cumiskey

Here's to keeping pet food safe. In addition to keeping our pet friends safe, it just makes better sense not to deplete your own market base!
