Civic Center Station Escalator Filled with Feces

You can say that BART is full of shit in terms of how it lied about disrupting mobile phone access during a protest, but the accusation is literally true when discussing the escalators at Market and 8th.

The Civic Center Station's escalator had to be dismantled because it was so full of human feces that it wasn't working properly. BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) is a traffic-circumventing lifeline for those in the East and South Bay Area (sorry, Marin), but its foyers are also prime camping spots for the city's homeless population.

If you've never thought of a publicly-accessible escalator as a giant mechanical toilet, well, your worldview just got nudged a bit.

Once the stations close, the bottom of BART station stairwells in downtown San Francisco are often a prime location for homeless people to camp for the night or find a private place to relieve themselves.
