Professor Akira Iritani of Kyoto University says that it is possible to clone a woolly mammoth, and produce a living specimen within four years.

Quoting a 30% success rate in cattle cloning, Iritani asserts that his team just needs to get hold of some viable woolly mammoth tissue, which can be obtained at a Russian research lab.

The cloning technique will be based on the work of Dr. Teruhiko Wakayama of the Riken Centre for Developmental Biology, who successfully cloned a mouse from deep-frozen genetic material.

The nuclei will then be inserted into the egg cells of an African elephant, which will act as the surrogate mother for the mammoth.

Professor Iritani said he estimates that another two years will be needed before the elephant can be impregnated, followed by the approximately 600-day gestation period.

This is what we need. Let's make a list of things that need cloning.

Its' amazing if really happened, from who they get mammoths DNA? Is it possible to clone the DNA animals that have lost thousands of years ago?

The thought of this is amazing if it happens. However the question really is it a good idea to mess with nature? also The mammoth became extinct did this happen for a reason?

I think this would be a great and interesting venture. I am cautious because we just do not have the land needed by the beast to survive unless we cage it for the rest of it's life. I am sure it would be way too warm for it to live comfortably and I am also sure there will be a dullard out there somewhere that cannot wait to shoot it.
