The SFU surrey campus is located near sky train station and bus stops. This is very convenient for students like me, that doesn’t drive often, but however if you take the bus or sky train there, you would have to enter by the front entrance. The front entrance has many doorways, however the amounts of smokers near the door way are quite a lot. Although the law had already ban smoking near public doorways, open windows, and air intakes, but the walk toward the entrance would still allow you to inhale second hand smokes.

Second-hang smokes are basically what the smokers exhale from cigarettes. In just the simple second hand smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, and more than 50 of these chemicals are carcinogens, which causes cancer.  These chemicals can also affect our body with diseases, such as asthma, heart disease, and emphysema.

This is quite unfair for the non-smoking students, who have to inhale these chemical everyday as they walk into SFU. Although, it might not quite harm their body, however if they inhale everyday, it will eventually somewhat harm them. Even though I am a smoker my self, but I don’t think the students there would have to breath in the second hand smokes, just by trying to walk in and walk out of the front door. I would want to suggest student to walk further away from the doorway if they are smoking, Thank you.
