Established in 2002, Simon Fraser University's Surrey Campus is one of the three campuses located around the lower mainland. Unlike its siblings, Surrey is newer, more high-tech, and it is located inside Surrey Central Shopping Center. The architecure is beautifully designed, more compact than Burnaby, and harbours serveral washrooms for easy access. However, one of the main washrooms has been closed for quite a while lately, and it is becoming somewhat problematic.
SFU Surrey has 8 male washrooms and 8 female washrooms for usage. The spacing between them is a little bit tricky, but not too distant from one another so that it would become hazardous. The first washroom is located at the gateway of the campus, in the Dale B. Regehr Grand Hall, otherwise known as the Mezzanine. There is one secretly hidden by the library, and then we have the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floor areas in the "yolkless egg" part.
The design is quite unusual, as the center of the campus is just the mall itself, so there wouldn't be enough support for a center to be there anyway. Each of those floors has a washroom right in the front, and again at the end of the oval.
Recently, there was a bit of leaking on the 3rd floor's main washroom and as a result, it has been closed. However, the closure has lasted around 2-3 weeks already, and is becoming quite nerve-racking. Many students have class nearby that main washroom, and tend to head over, wondering if it'll ever be open for usage. That question cannot clearly be answered, as nobody really knows what's going on.
Another interesting problem that arises, is the fact that the washrooms adjacent to the main one are often closed for cleaning, not repairs. When that time comes, students must relocate up one level, and try and find the closest washroom.
This all leads to the conclusion that the washroom issue shouldn't be ignored. Many students and teachers alike are sharing their complaints, and something needs to be done soon. Personally, I don't mind so much to the extent that I'd require immediate action. On the other hand, there are always times when the washroom is right there, but it's not open.
Hopefully, they'll try and fix it up as soon as possible, because Open House 2009 just passed by not too long ago, and it was closed during that event as well. Nobody wants to see anyone have an unfortunate accident because the main washroom is closed, and the nearest washroom is a 2 minute walk away.

How odd - I wonder if it has to do with a lack of staff to fix them? Although still, it shouldn't take a few weeks to do anything!

Hopefully it's fixed when I go tomorrow, because it was still closed today.
