These Nestlé shelf talkers violate Article 5 of the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and Nestlé own Infant Formula Policy for Developing Countries, which says Nestlé does not advertise infant formula to the general public. All the same, Nestlé has publicly defended them and the health claims which suggest the formula 'protects'. The Department of Health in South Africa has told Nestlé that such claims are against South African regulations, but Nestlé has refused to remove them. It has also been informed shelf talkers are viewed as a Code violation by the Department of Health. See:
