A New Show Premieres Tuesday March 30th at 9 / 8c on the History Channel called The Real Face of Jesus and Examines a 3-D Analysis of the Shroud of Turin that Claims to Reveal What Jesus May Have Looked Like

There has long been a claim that a ghostly image of Jesus' face can be seen on the Shroud of Turin, and in a two part documentary starting on the History Channel on March 30th specialists explain that they have uncovered what they believe to be the real face of Jesus Christ, using computer analysis and 3-D imaging.

"Is this the artifact of a real person or not? Definitely it is," Ray Downing, the digital illustrator at the center of the show

The specialists used computers to develop a photorealistic representation of Jesus' face from the Shroud of Turin, which some people believe was the cloth in which Jesus was buried. Some think the imprint of what appears to be a face on the Shroud is real and others believe it is a clever fake that was done in the 13th or 14th century.

There have been numerous tests done on the cloth to see if it was made in Jesus' time. A test in 1988 dated the cloth back to medieval times, but others say that test was done on a patch of the cloth and not the original material.

Controversy rages on the authenticity of the cloth, but with these new tests done on the Shroud could the real face of Jesus finally be uncovered?

The History Channel is airing their special just in time for Easter coming up this weekend, and just in time for the Shroud of Turin to go on display for six weeks at Turin Cathedral starting April 10th.

Downing and his team came up with what they believe to be an accurate portrayal of the face of Jesus Christ. How close are they? Perhaps we will never know.

I believe that the Shroud of Turin show us the face of Jesus Christ.  It may not be proven in my lifetime, but it is the face of Jesus.

If you have doubts about the shroud itself, the message still stands true. I am a believer!  This shows the not just his face, but the torture and pain he endured.  In my faith, he did this for all of us.  To explain what I believe, my take from this, we must remove our hate for others, as he has taken the hate upon himself and delivered that to the Father long ago.  We should not allow our world to hate differences or changes.  We must LEARN about the person or people of today, understand the difference and leave all other things to the Lord.  In order to help peace grow, we must tell the entire story of Jesus.  He believed that the people worship as they wish.  Morals should be up to the individual.  We must embrace those 'less desirable' to us and give one important thing to all.  LOVE!  Praise God!

Sorry Nick. Your take is absolutely without scriptural truth - it is post modernist relativisim splashed with some spiritual sentiment. Jesus Christ is the Son of God, both man and God. He was tortured and crucified and died. In dying and the shedding of His blood He became the atoning sacrifice, the propitiation that gave up a perfect life for the sins of the world and brought reconciliation between God and fallen humanity. In His crucifixion He conquered sin and our bondage to sin and in His resurrection He defeated the result of sin - even death. He lives in power and glory and will return to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will have no end.

Help me Bretheren in Christ. I real do not understand anything about the shroud. I was glad to find the discussion about it. last Saturday I saw from EWTN pope Benedict XVI visiting Turin. How was the image discovered?

Interesting new data.  It will be interesting to see where the debate goes as the years tick by and techonological advances evolve.  I believe the former science based investigative research used corrupted and contaiminated samples to analyze.  The Church should consider allowing the shroud to be exposed to another battery of less invasive testing in the future.  It may put an end to the debate about age...regardless, if it does date from the time of Christ, we'll still never know definitely if it is the image of Jesus of Nazareth.  I guess it's a leap of faith left to the believer, or non believer.

"Real" or not - a very interesting story - and no matter how it was done - "How was it done???"But in the end the real faith of Christians is in the Jesus 11th Commandment - "Love your neighbor as yourself - this above all others."  Don't need anything but that in religion - all the other stuff is just distraction!

I truly believe that is the face of the Son of God, My Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a miracle that the shroud is here and how it is on the shoud in the first place. I believe this is the Proof that the Timothy's of today need to make them see the truth. God is bigger than science and here is the proof that they need.

This is a wonderful and the most accurate view of Jesus from the shroud, my truly and deepest gratitute to who make this great job possible on the computer because thanks to them I am very honored and lucky to can see our Lord the way he looked when he was on earth, just think how many others from our present time to almost 2000 years ago would like to be able to can see him but they never could as we can now in this picture.

SCIENTIFIC MIND

Of course the shroud is real, I am a person that must know the facts, details, have evidence and can prove something before I can accept it as real and I see the shroud of Turin is a unique item in the world about this subject, just read the scientists reports, the way the image was discovered on it, nobody in this world can reproduce it even with the technology we have available now so needless to say impossible to do it anytime in the past, there is no paint of any kind on it, get all the facts and history of it and then you can

Ok .... this has been disproved on multiple occasions,  I too believe in Jesus ; I however have enough sense to know that the shroud is a fake...... Of course I am sure that all conservative Christians will use this as an excuse to use bigotry to say how every other person on earth that isnt part of thier religion will go to hell...... or to go on another God imposed "Crusade" against some other poor Muslim country with the excuse of saving thier souls even if they have to kill them to do it. I am disgusted with the modern face of Christianity and this need to try to prove something that is supposed to be taken on faith... It is time that we all just drop this stupid thing and beleive what we want and stop trying to force our religion on each other as being the one true way, it is always used as an excuse for murder.

Forgiven!

No matter how this shroud came to be let us not take our thoughts off of what really matters. Thomas would not believe until he saw the nail scars in Jesus hands and physically felt wound in his side. Jesus said "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." Everything Jesus promised is true. He said he would die......on a cross. He said he would rise again......He did and there were over five hundred witnesses to this fact. We live in a world where we believe everything that is written in a magazine or the newspaper.....how sad. The Bible has stood the test of time and has proven itself to be the inspired word of God. There are qiute a few people that have set out to prove the Bible is just a story.....a fake, and yet through thier investigations have become believers. The shroud is or is not the burial cloth of Christ, but does that change the fact that there is a risen savior?......no, not for me... I choose to believe anyway. Every person has a choice to make in this life. Every person believes in something. I do not sit as judge or jury, I sit as a sinner saved by the grace of God through Jesus suffering for my sins. One of these days be it by rapture or being raised from my grave I will see my lord face to face.

if he rose again he could have bled as he was alive

1

if he arose from the dead he could have carried on bleeding therefore making indentations in blood in the cloth

if he arose from the dead he could have bled leaving indentations in the cloth wrapped round him.

if you covered in blood and wrapped in a cloth  then it would have blood stainsI don't require any more  than the word of  Jesus what his body was wrapped in is not important to me , we all need to learn to love one another and know that one day we will all find out the truth!!

I guess the belief in the Shroud of Turin helps a lot of ailing brains.  It's a great fake that inspires weak souls.  As for me the real miracle we all need is for the world to stop perpetrating crimes because of religion.  Remember the crusaders?  Now we have the Muslim fundamentalists.  God shouldn't show His might through lame apparitions and images in old cloths ...He should appear in all His glory in the heavens for All to see and tell us in no uncertain terms that the human race is going to pot and that we should change or He'll crush us in one stomp of His holy foot!!

With all the research and scientific debate why has no one ever just looked at the face depicted. It is the face of a white European. It is definitely not the face of an Aramaic Jew of the 1st century.

I'm not 100% sure that this is the actual burial cloth of Jesus Christ, but the growing evidence is astounding and sure looks as if it could be.  To your opinion that this isn't the face of an "Aramaic Jew", consider the following:1. The facts shows that there are microscopic evidence of flowers and plants (eg, rock rose pollen) in the shroud, including some (eg, Zygophyllum dumosum) that only grow in the area of Palestine that Jesus lived, specifically between Jerusalem and Jericho, and that blossomed only in the season of his death (i.e., near the time of Passover).  So yes, the cloth would be consistent with those of an "Aramaic Jew" who lived at the time of Jesus and who died during Passover. (www.shroud.com/danin.htm and www.shroudstory.com/pollen.htm)2. The same flower and plant pollen show that the shroud was at least prior to the 8th century, and possibly much earlier. This debunks the argument of one of the biggest skeptics who said it was a 14th century hoax.  So now, we have a shroud that originated in or near Jerusalem at least as early as the 8th century.   (www.sciencedaily.com/releases/1999/08/990803073154.htm)3. The negative!  Think about it.  No one knew how to create a photography negative until photography was developed 200 years ago. Further, it would be impossible to do it error free.  4. No one can fully explain exactly how the image was created.  Paraphrasing one of the scientists looking at this, rather than say the "m" word (miracle) or "r" word (resurrection), he said the image and caramel affects appeared to have been created by simultaneous lightning generated from and emitting from inside the body going out towards the cloth.  Amazing!  Further, the remnants of whatever created the image are 1/100th the width of a human hair, impossible to create as a hoax, especially some 2000 years ago.5. The nail holes are in the WRISTS!  Remember that during the Middle Ages and before the cloth was widely known, most of the Middle Age images of Jesus' crucifixion showed holes in Jesus' hands (or as we call them today, the "palms" of His hands). We now scientifically know that the palms would have been unable to sustain the weight of a man without ripping, but the "wrists" would.   This shroud (accurately) shows the holes in the "wrists", which were still considered part of the "hands" in the vernacular of Jews of the time of the crucifixion.   I know of a traditional conservative Jew who did a double-take, and his whole demeanor changed, when he realized the significance of the nail holes in the wrists, and began to ponder and just say, "hmm."  That's powerful.  It's reminiscent of Thomas who initially said he wouldn't believe Jesus rose until he saw the holes.6. The cloth's image shows no tearing or pulling like one would expect had a bloody body been present when it would have been  unwrapped.  It's like the body was there, then it wasn't, but there was no pulling away the cloth from the body. There are certainly more points, but these are the main ones that stood out to me. I will be studying this more.

You can never convince anyone the truth if that someone does not keep his mind open to things beyond science. Science is good but if you limit yourself to science, then you will never believe, besides there are things that science has told us in the past as fact and then suddenly contradicts itself, like for example, pluto?
