There are a lot of things that a person with diabetes can do to help solve sleeping problems without resorting to taking even further medication.

  • Exercise a few hours (ideally four to five) before bedtime to get your blood flowing evenly through your body.
  • Avoid eating a lot of food for dinner or having a late snack. Also, do not smoke or drink caffeneinated beverages: nicotine and caffeine are stimulants that keep you awake.
  • Find a sleeping rhythm and schedule and stick to it. However, do not force yourself to sleep; go to bed when you are sleepy.
