South Africa is making good progress when it comes to fighting the spill over of Zimbabwe's cholera epidemic. According to the health department, water resources in Musina - a border town with Zimbabwe - have tested negative for cholera.

Spokesperson Phuthi Seloba said that even various river including the Limpopo, river which runs through the area, tested negative for the disease. One of the reasons for this is that rivers regularly clean themselves due to turbulences.

Meanwhile the death toll (eight) has not increased and the number of patients has gone down. "We currently have 31 patients compared to about 111 we had in hospital last month, which indicates that we are succeeding in treating the disease," a spokes person said.

"Only two patients returned for treatment, but we are not taking chances. We are investigating under what circumstances the two people got cholera again," he said.

Thanks for your comment - yes, it is a step in the good direction. For South Africa at least. Hopefully, the outbreak will be under control in Zimbabwe soon as well.
