My two adopted Sprague-Dawley rats. This pair was very loving, cute, and smart. I was lucky enough to have known them for about 2 years. This is a picture from the day I brought them home. I caught them posing and had to snap a picture.
I took a Principles of Learning course at school and trained Squirt to press a lever for sugar pellets using operant conditioning reinforcement schedules. He was the quickest learner of the group and had a record number of lever presses. At first, my lab partner and I could not decide on a name but my partner often would come in and say "Hi squirt" because he was the smallest rat in the lab. I thought that Squirt was a great name so we kept it for him. Squeak was a rat trained by another pair but they were unable to adopt him so I thought Squirt could use a companion. Apparently he was named Squeak because he always made a squeak when he was picked up.
They were great guys and are missed by all who were lucky enough to get to know them.
