Statue of Jesus in jeans is unveiled in East Sussex in the UK
A statue of Jesus wearing a pair of fashionable baggy jeans has been unveiled at a church in East Sussex, with the idea of presenting Christ as a man of the 21st century.
Father David Buckley and his church received 35,000 pounds to build the statue, that is seven feet high and is mounted on the outside wall of the Our Lady Immaculate and St Philip Neri Catholic church in Uckfield, East Sussex.
The money was donated by Winifred Gregory, who left it to the church when he passed away last year.
In the statue, Christ is wearing a button-down shirt and baggy fashionable jeans, while his hair and beard are cut in a modern style.
Father Buckley said: "You are always looking for new ways to enrich people in the experience of Christianity and it is good people can be open-minded to appreciate it.
"On the continent you often encounter modern representations of Jesus but it is not so common over here. We wanted a figure of Christ not in suffering but dynamic and welcoming.
"We felt this design summed up the spirit and activity of Christ perfectly and I think it speaks for itself.
Mr. Cornish, who designed the statue, entered a competition to mark the church's 50th anniversary, and his was the clear favourite. The statue will soon sit on the top of the bell tower.
Mr. Cornish has this to say about his design:
"His clothing is being blown vigorously to add the sense of him being alive and his strength in defying earthly cares.
"The clothing is loosely contemporary in order to connect Christ to his people now as much as to his past.
"I hope this sculpture will inspire and communicate in very human terms, reaching out and being relevant to both the congregation and local community."

I find it hard to condemn this kind of art or expression - its funny really ...
I personally relate to the idea of a suffering Christ and the deep tragedy of crucifixion but I cannot imagine a Jesus Christ that could not laugh and wear baggy trousers sometimes ...

This is what done according to Bible. This is the false knowledge of Jesus and false doctrine which was bound to spread in the end-times of the earth according to Bible. I am not surprised. We cannot judge anybody, but Lord JESUS will surely punish the people who are behind this for trying to change the true gospel itself which comes only from the death and resurrection of Lord JESUS CHRIST. This rubbish kinds of statues only interest people who do not believe in the existence of God or who do not accept Lord JESUS as their only Lord and saviour. This statue is put in the Catholic churches once again. I am sorry but I have to say that this proves once again that Catholic church authorities have a very little knowlege about Christianity preached in the Holy Bible. They should not have changed the clothes of JESUS like this. But they do not posses any kind of Biblical knowledge and that is why they become the victim of satan's works against the gospel of Lord JESUS CHRIST. Actually, a true Christian cannot honour, salute or pray to any kind of statue or photographs even if it is of Lord JESUS or mother Mary. (Please read Exodus 20:4 and try to understand its meaning). This is a big sin and unfortunately Catholic church has no knowledge about this. They are going to be judged by God.
Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. (Revelation 22:14)
15For without [are] dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. (Revelation 22:15)
16I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, [and] the bright and morning star. (Revelation 22:16)
17And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. (Revelation 22:17)
18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: (Revelation 22:18)
19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book.
20He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20)
21The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you all. Amen. (Revelation 22:21)
My prayer is that may Lord JESUS CHRIST come back soon early to judge every dead and alive and punish the wrong-doers like this.

Fer Pete's sake! That looks like a statue that should be at a surfer store not at a church. Modernity sucks.
