Supply of medicine assured in red tide-hit Albay province

MALACAÑANG HAS directed the Department of Health (DoH) to ensure enough medicines in Albay province and other areas affected by the red tide.

"The DoH is strengthening its campaign to ban the consumption of the contaminated shellfish due to red tide. We need to boost the stockpiling of medicines in hospitals so that they can easily respond to the victims," Deputy Presidential Spokesman Anthony T. Golez, Jr. said in a radio interview.

He also assured that the Health department has sent surveillance team to warn residents about the red tide.

The red tide has killed at least two people and downed more than 20 others in Albay. Governor Jose Ma. S. Salceda has directed the Provincial Health Office to strictly monitor the cases of poisoning. The contaminated shellfish reportedly came from Sorsogon.
