According to the Chinese government’s recently statistics, there are 967 cases of swine flu in China. From the earlier reports, Chinese government insulated the families, buildings, schools, airplanes once there was a confirmed case. Chinese government has paid extreme attention on the swine flu since it happened. Recently, Beijing government informs that firstly, any relative officials who do not carry out the protective measures effectively, will commit a crime by law; secondly, any companies, organizations who do not carry out the protective measures effectively will be asked to shutout or withdraw licenses and amerced between from ¥50,000 to ¥200,000. (reported by Xin Hua She)

According to the latest statistics reported by Public Health Agency of Canada in June 22, the number of confirmed cases of swine flu in Canada has increased 747 for the last three days. The statistics reported by WHO in June 22 show that the death cases because of swine flu raise fiercely the U.S. and U.S. has become one of the most serious epidemic disease countries in North American. However, the news of swine flu does not show up as any highline headlines in most of the media in North American. And most of the news of swine flu just reminds people protect themselves carefully.

Comparing China with U.S. and Canada, the swine flu is less serious in China, while the protective measures are paid more attention in China. Does this means U.S and Canadian government do not care about the flu as much as Chinese government?

As far as I am concerned, Chinese government has over regarded on the swine flu. It is true that the large and density of Chinese population leads the epidemic diseases very hard to control once it breaks out. Chinese government had a painful lesson from SARS in 2002. It is cannot be denied that when swine flu broke out this year, Chinese government has carried out effective measures to control the flu. However, the insulations and the laws go too much extremely, which has increased the burden of economic development. Firstly, the government budget has to allocate a huge amount of money for the protective measures which are not really necessary. Secondly, because of the extreme insulations, economy has grown even more slowly than before, specially it has had a very bad effect on tourism. Thirdly, swine flu becomes the most headlines of the media, which switch people’s attention of the recession of economy. Less people pay attention on the recession leads to more difficult recovery in the recession.
