Three Deadly bombings in Maidiguri, Northern Nigeria
Police in Nigeria said at least three people have been killed and several others injured in a series of bomb explosions in the Northern city of Maiduguri. Nigeria is holding elections for state governors on Tuesday. Hundreds of people have died following the presidential and parliamentary elections. The Police said the dead and injured have been taken to two Hospitals in the city. Two of the explosion occurred at a hotel and the other at a transport hub. It is unclear whether the violence in Maiduguri is linked to that elsewhere in Nigeria. The police suggest it is the work of a local Islamic sect, Boko Haram which two years ago launched a bloody uprising in which hundreds of people were killed. And they apparently came to this conclusion owing to a three-page statement said to be found outside a newspaper office in the city that says:
"We will never accept any system of governance apart from the one described by Islam because that is the only way Muslims can be liberated," it said."We do not respect the Nigerian government because it is illegal. We will continue to fight its military and police because they are not protecting Islam."
