1. Know your risk and keep a healthy weight
More than 2.5 million Australians are at a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, but many are unaware until it is too late. Excess weight, particularly around the abdomen, can significantly increase the chances of type 2 diabetes. For men, their waist circumference should be less than 94 centimetres; for women it should be less than 80 centimetres.
