North America has a reputation for brewing some of the world's worst beers -- and some of the best. The worst are the mass-produced lagers that come off the shelf devoid of character. The best are beers produced by hundreds of small breweries (some no longer small, by the way), usually in a Belgian, German or English style. Goose Island Brewery in Wisconsin is one of these, and this is a version of their ale designed to be served chilled (to suit American tastes in the scorching summer). It's lighter and drier than many traditional ales, but still rich and full-bodied and smooth.
