Tylenol Recall 2009: List of Infant and Children's Tylenol Recall
A voluntary recall of several infant and children's Tylenol has been announced by the drug company, McNeil Consumer Healthcare. Twenty-one Tylenol products had been identified, due to possible contamination of one of the inactive ingredients used for making the drug. The recall was issued on September 18, 2009, for products manufactured between April 2008 and June 2008.
UPDATE (JAN. 2010): Tylenol Expanded Recall List in 2010 (see link for detail)
Examination of bulk raw material found the ingredient did not meet their internal testing requirements. The gram-negative bacteria Burkholderia cepacia (B. cepacia) was detected. No bacteria has been detected in finished products, but the recall was issued as a precaution.
Research shows that infection with B. cepacia has been reported after individuals have used pharmaceutical products such as nasal sprays and mouthwash that have been contaminated with the bacteria. Possible adverse effects related to infection with B. cepacia can be serious in patients considered to be high risk, such as those who have pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, or whose immune systems are otherwise compromised.

UPDATE (JAN. 2010): Johnson & Johnson's McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit broadened Tylenol recall because of complaints of a musty, moldy odor in some Tylenol products: including Tylenol, Mortin, Benadryl Allergy Ultratab, Rolaids Antacid Tablets, Simply Sleep, and St. Joseph products.

why list a phone number if you DO NOT TAKE CALLS??????????? well, at least you actually recalled the product, so much for letting people have their money back... now you can go make more bad drugs with all of our money !!! thanks, for nothing !!!

Yeah, I was put on hold. If they made an effort to provide the details on their site they wouldn't need to put us on hold or ignore the calls. Clearly, they couldn't care less about the parents concerns or making such a process simple and easy for the customer. We have to go other places to find out the facts. I don't plan on using their products again. I am outraged at their lack of concern for worried parents and how they put me on hold or directed me to asking my doctor. Tylenol!!!! It is YOUR product that is recalled so it is YOU that should be able to provide all the answers and not direct me to my doctor. I shouldn't have a question if you provide the appropriate information. Absurd!

Why did it take so long to announce the recall? The products were made in April 2008. When did they know? How long did it take to decice to tell the public? These should be your concerns

ok so if it was made in april 2008 and its september 2009 then its not as serious as everyone is making it i mean seriously how many people have taking it or given it to others and not had a problem but now that it is notice by something that never even touched the bottles everyone is freakin out its nothing big until it goes farther ok i dont understand but if it was 2008 april and millions and thousands and hundereds of people have taken it since then i think its just a caution safety take it or dont but in times like this we nedd to PRAY....!!!!

NO, it's very serious. A friend's baby died on Saturday, Sept.26, 2009. He was ONLY 4 months old. Autopsy stated it was the bacteria found in the tylenol.

bet ya cant provide any proof of this? many people manufacture information to get people worked up!
at 06:10 on November 4th, 2009
I can just bet there is no evidence of this story. People so very quickly jump on the "bash large companies" bandwagon that many times exaggerations are never verified!
at 08:03 on September 27th, 2009
ummm...obviously they don't want to make bad drugs cause they recalled what was bad. why don't you be thankful about that. here's an idea worry about your child, and watch your child for possible symptoms of sickness, then if there's a problem take her to the doctor. someone who is trained in medicine. i understand being concerned, because i am as well. but your focus should be on your child, and not crucifying a drug company who is trying to make the situation right.
at 16:09 on September 28th, 2009
Obviously they dont care they waited long enough for most of the procucts to be consumed before recalling it.If they were trying to make the situation right they would have done it earlier than now.

You must work for a drug company or your husband. People who get upset and blog it are writing on emotion don't belittle them

Defend Big Business. Good Job. You obviously are not a parent and if you are you are willing to put Big Business ahead of your child's safety.
at 06:23 on November 4th, 2009
Well, I am a parent and an elementary school nurse. Yes, I checked the Tylenol at home and at school and did not find any with the lot numbers recalled. Do I put big business ahead of my children, NO! Now a few questions for you. Do you terrorize pregnant women for drinking alcohol, smoking or doing drugs? They are harming their child but you look the other way. Do you confront drug dealers for selling illegal drugs to children? They cause far more harm to children and society than big business. Skeptic is right, people are so willing to jump on a crucify big business bandwagon because it's easy and they are protected. What about all the real harm going on in your own neighborhoods, areas where one voice CAN make a difference. Are you doing anything "in your own backyard"? You are probably the parent who medicates their children and sends them on to school, infecting the entire population of the school. Folks, nothing in life is guaranteed. There is not one medicine in the world that does not pose some risk. There are foods that pose risk, people...and so on. What is important is how you deal with this. Crying for their heads is not productive. Educate yourselves, speak out for those whom you can help. Do you think your complaints are going to cause Tylenol to stop being manufactured? NO!!! Speak out for tighter controls on testing batches, be productive and proactive instead of the couch potato sitting around griping about all of it!!

How dare you minimize the situation,i am really worried not just for my two lil grandaughters but all those other kids, whose parents may not be aware,or are using possibly contaminated medications,we should have been notified sooner ,kids have died'' and this could have been prevented,so do not make light of this situation. what if those were your kids that died? and the drug company released info only after the fact?.
at 06:50 on November 3rd, 2009
Do you get in the face of pregnant mothers who drink, do drugs or smoke? They are doing FAR more harm to their child than Tylenol!!! get a life

quit crying people like you make the world a worse place to live in. live and let live goodness. life is way to short for you to gripe about things like this. i mean honestly how much money did you spend on tylenol?? if you are really worried about the 5 dollars that's gonna break you then email me and ill send you the 5 dollars.

Well said Robert!!!!!!!! No company is perfect and at least they did recall it themselves and not procrastinate and wait for the FDA to do it.
at 13:04 on September 29th, 2009
Well I hope you're rich enough to pay millions of people $5 smart ass! Tylenol just made millions of dollars on unusable products that will most likely be replaced by more unusable products!
at 18:10 on September 30th, 2009
Made millions of dollars on unusable? Have you lost your mind? The product has been used and probably kept your child's fever down so they wouldn't slip into a coma. Why does it always have to be about money. At least Tylenol is trying to help our sick children. What are you doing for society?...NOTHING!! Thank God that you even have the freedom and money to buy medication. I've been all over the world, and some other countries don't have those freedoms.
at 11:07 on September 30th, 2009
Well Said!!!! I can't belive people are crying over a company's POSITIVE action! In such trying times, this has got to hurt them big time, but they are trying to do the right thing about something that MIGHT have been wrong! They are taking a precautionary measure! I salute them...I have two kids too 4 yr and 4 mo. AND I am GLAD they are proactive instead of reactive! Ca't believe people are making such a hoo haa over $5! If they can't even watch their own kids for symptoms, then Lord help them!
at 18:45 on September 30th, 2009
u probably don't have children and if u do, U DON'T CARE about their health. WHAT A GREAT DAD, HURAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4 U

We all are concerned. I am a parent that checked the site of the recalled items. I had three of the liquid tylenol products on hand, none of them had the lot number. Even though it bothers we that it appears to have taken a year to recall/discover, I am still very thankful for all the times that the products have eased my children's fever.
at 06:54 on November 3rd, 2009
why does not jumping on your lynch Tylenol bandwagon mean that someone does not care about their kids??? wow
at 04:06 on October 3rd, 2009
I have one thing to ask you. What if your child took the tainted drugs and past away? Would you be bashing all the worried and irate parents then?
at 22:38 on October 3rd, 2009
Have tou ever had a kid?
at 08:34 on October 8th, 2009
maybe if your child was the one with a 104. fever then you would speak a little diffrently or if you held the dead child in your hands, its not about five dollars.asshole!!!!!!!
at 06:46 on November 3rd, 2009
No, it was not my child...did your child pass away? I can understand that family being upset but folks....what is the deal? Do you get on your soapboxes and yell for the drunk drivers, speeders, drug dealers, prostitutes and others that put society at a far greater risk than a company who does more good than harm. Yes, I have kids, yes they take Tylenol, yes I checked the lot numbers on my boxes...as well as the boxes of the Tylenol the students at my school. Folks, imagine if you made a mistake, served nuts to a child with an allergy and they got sick, do you want the parents calling for your head. Get off the witch hunt and move on - do something productive with all of this energy. This attitude is why folks can sue McDonalds for serving hot coffee or other fast food companies because they are fat...homeless people, drug addicts (even children who are addicts) and many other causes would LOVE for some of you to be so passionate for a cause that can actually help!
