Untreatable MRSA infection treated naturally by using Oregano
Work done by
British and
Indian scientists,
have found oregano
to be an effective antibacterial,
may work to eradicate
the untreatable MRSA.
Oregano is a super-herb
that can treat almost anything.
Sounds too simple?
True solutions usually are.
The MRSA super-bug could be wiped out using natural oil from oregano, scientists revealed today.
Researchers have discovered that the herb, commonly used in cooking, could eradicate the deadly infection from hospital wards.
Tiny quantities of carvacrol, a naturally occurring compound in oregano, were found to be a more effective antimicrobial agent than 18 pharmaceutical drugs, investigators found.
University of the West of England researchers, working with partners in India, said carvacrol, which contains potent anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, has a range of medicinal uses.
It can sterilise septic water, kill giardia, treat fungal infections such as candida and rivals pharmaceutical antibiotics such as streptomycin and penicillin in its ability to eliminate microbes.
Preliminary research into the oil found that tiny doses are capable of wiping out fungi and bacteria, including MRSA.
British and Indian researchers gained the SEED (supporting Entrepeneurs for Environment and Development) award from the United Nations.

Now if the medical profession has the smarts to try it...
great story

Hopefully Pharma won't get a hold of it. They will dilute it and add the junk parts just to save a buck! We will get crumby quality and pay more.
The doctors-in-training do take a bit of alternative medicine in their courses, so they are being exposed to it more.
The best thing is to have a good relationship with your doctor. One in which you are partners... instead of the doctor being looked upon as God. That is a new trend now, where the patient is given power.

this is a picture of a small oregano plant that was protected by leaves that fell from our tree, right before a snowstorm. Underneath the snow and leaves I found this happy little herb doing just fine with the temps in the teens!

Interesting story! I have this medicinal plant in my backyard...Oregano is also good for curing athritist, and related joint problems include pain, stiffness and inflamation. In my understanding, Medicinal Herbs or native herbal, is an alternative nature herbal remedies... Thank you for sharing!

The great "Green Hope". I wonder how much longer we must wait for the medical community to recognize alternatives to man made drugs.

Thank you for the recommend, harringtola.
I am a nurse and although I don't use many herbs, I can vouch for the many miracles that oregano performs. Be sure to get the pure stuff though. North American is a good brand.
I would suggest buying it from a health food store, as they usually do their research first.
Some companies use sage or majoram and call it oregano. Not good. You want the wild Mediterranean oregano (purple flowers, harvest before bloom though).
There is a good book out called The Cure is in the Cupboard.

Do they mean eating the oil of oregano or topically applying it to the mrsa boils? it doesnt specify!
at 10:15 on March 4th, 2009
According to The Cure is in Your Cupboard, take it as a capsule.
Also, for a topical dressing on the MRSA wounds, see

i wonder if these leaves are found in India and what is their Hindi name?
at 10:26 on March 4th, 2009
I am not sure. The one I trust is the Mediterranean Wild Oregano. Some plants are actually marjoram or sage, but being called oregano.
