NP Rank:
US Imprisoned IRS Whistleblower Pleas for Medical Care
Some might remember Sherry Peel Jackson, 45, of Stone Mountain, Georgia as the former IRS Revenue Agent turned tax protestor who was sentenced to four years in Federal Prison in February of 2008 for failure to file her income tax returns.
Ms. Jackson was also featured in the blockbuster documentary, America: FREEDOM TO FASCISM by Hollywood movie producer, Aaron Russo's (best known for producing "Trading Places" and "Wise Guys") where she claimed that the IRS code requiring US citizens to pay income taxes is illegal and unconstitutional.
Ms. Jackson is currently serving her sentence at the Atlanta Detention Center and recently became ill due to pre-existing thyroid problems made worse by conditions at the jail and claims she is not receiving proper treatment. Prison medical officials have determined that Sherry Jackson suffers from what is known as hyperthyroidism...or "Graves Disease."
In a letter to Sherry's Representative Hank Johnson, (D) representing the 4th Congressional District of Georgia, Sherry Jackson expressed her concerns;
Sherry Jackson states that she is "being punished for exposing government fraud" and that she is being used as an example by the DOJ under the "Tax Defiers Initiative" program, punishing people who don't file their income tax returns. Many tax protesters claim the authority of the federal government to collect income tax rests with the 16th Amendment to the United States Constitution, but was never ratified by congress and therefore is an unconstitutional burden that is imposed illegally, upon U.S. citizens.
The Sixteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states:
"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."
Sherry Peel Jackson is currently calling upon family, friends and the American Public to petition the U.S. Government so that she may receive proper medical treatment.

Free her.

It's unfortunate that she is imprisoned for exercising her rights while true crooks and tax cheats like Geithner and his cronies go free, create and dictate the rules.
Sherry Jackson is truly a political prisoner in my opinion and if she should die because of her illness while in prison, this could possibly lead to legal problems for the government due to her not receiving the medical attention she claims she is not receiving... not to mention constitutional issues should it be viewed that the government wanted her to die to keep her quiet.

Act of Conscience is a documentary about a couple who refused to pay income tax protesting the U.S. military policies.
I am torn on the issue after watching this documentary. If I were going to use this method of civil disobedience, I would have calculated the percent of taxes for the military budget and withheld that portion, but I would have paid the balance for other programs and costs. I agree we are responsible for maintaining our country, and that includes taking care of her population in many ways besides defense.

Thanks for that info and the link to the documentary a211423. While I don't pretend to be an expert, my understanding is that the IRS was created around the same time as the Federal Reserve and its main purpose was essentially, as a means to collect revenue through an income tax in order to pay the interest that was created through debt to the newly formed Federal Reserve Corporation.
Up until that time, in order to run the (much smaller) federal government and pay for ALL its programs and military budget, the federal governement needed only to collect taxes that were apprortioned as outlined under the US Constitution before it was ammended in favor of FED doctrine.

Do you know how to use our highlight tool or do you need some help with it? We do ask our members to place all quoted material in the tool rather that just providing a link. Here's a link that explains it better than I can.
at 15:40 on December 2nd, 2009
If we are being asked to use this protocol... how about we be given instructions on HOW to do it, instead of a having to read an entire diatribe of info that means nothing to the rest of us. For the rest of us... we'll just have to copy the link's info to our browser's address line. (good grief)
at 15:42 on December 2nd, 2009
The reason we don't provide too much info at once is because it's too much too soon. If the member needs help they can ask us, most don't need help (good grief)
And are you a member? If you are, why are you posting anonymously? And if you aren't, why does it matter to you, it's a requirement for our members....

Amy, thanks for the tip and I used the tool as suggested but in consideraton of a story, wouldn't it be better to notify members of the rules in a private message rather than detract from the discussion and comment flow in this area?
at 15:55 on December 2nd, 2009
No, I always do things in public, otherwise other members accuse the staff of not doing anything. This way, everyone can see what's going on.
at 16:37 on December 2nd, 2009
Obviously then, NowPublic staff are more concerned with their public appearance than what should actually be considered news related on Now Public. Thanks again for the disrupting the flow.
at 17:48 on December 2nd, 2009
I'm sorry you feel that way. I merely offered to help. We are told as staff to wrench stories that don't follow the rules, but I didn't, I made a comment as wrenching it would have lost you points and disrupted your story even more. I guess next time I won't offer to help.
at 20:42 on December 2nd, 2009
I understand you were being helpful Amy, and I really do appreciate you taking the time to be so. But quite franky, I'm not here to win points as I am not looking to further a writing career or make a name for myself. I'm interested in issues that are newsworthy including what others might have to say regarding those issues.
It's actually quite disheartening to see your comments regarding the rules get more recommedations than any of those applicable to the actual story. Doesn't say much for "Crowd Powered Media."
I understand the rules and will abide by them. I've reported trouble with the widgets on NP four days ago and Rok Zlender has recently responded to help me out. After receiving your comment and attempting once more to highlight according to rules, I discovered the problem was with my IE8 browser and was finally able to hightlight by alternatevely using FireFox.
All that aside, a decision to comment rather than wrench a member's story could just as easily be made in a NP-system email as one made here. I still believe contacting members through the NP email system is far better than all the wasted space dedicated to this issue in this forum when the space could be much better utilized for information that is important and matters to the NowPublic audience at large... especially those readers who are not members and haven't got a clue to what is being said here but also visit this site for news items.

aurealeus: My apologies for being the cause of such an unnecessary and upleasant interruption. This is a great article on an very important topic, so will undoubtedly draw much more attention before it runs it's course. It may have helped others to read your initial response to me, but it looks like it's been scrubbed along with my answer to Amy's question. I'm sure I won't be the last "outsider" to visit this site because, as you describe here... I came here for the "news".
at 21:59 on December 2nd, 2009
Had nothing to do with you Valerie. It was a member/rule issue that caused all the fuss as outlined in my comments. My "scrubbed" comment was deleted by myself because it only duplicated the answer given by Amy and I wanted to see the space utilized for the purpose of commenting on the story of Ms. Jackson.
Thank you for taking time to read and care and hope you come back and consider becomming a contributing member to the NowPublic community.

Back up, folks! This article was not intended to debate the issue of income tax. Whether or not anyone agrees with the issue of paying taxes, or being a volunteered part of society, or choosing to protest any particular law ISN'T the point of this article. This woman did choose to protest, was convicted, and was serving her time (quietly). She was accepting the price for her actions by serving 4 years in prison. The purpose of this article is to expose the retalliatory actions of the IRS, DOJ, and the penal system in this country! Regardless of the crime, anyone serving time should not be denied necessary medical treatment... ever. The fact that this woman has been so obviously neglected leaves one to wonder whether or not this previously "heathy young woman" may have been infected with something in the first place... then neglected. Remember the original offense this woman committed was to expose the IRS fraud, thereby threatening the very lifeblood of this overgrown government. Considering that no one has ever been able to prove the existence of a specific law that requires us to pay anything other than an "apportioned" tax (meaning equal), there is much at stake for them, and they need to make an example of her. See for yourselves... www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIB9FWKYNJ0 See if you can watch them all before they get deleted!

Saw it many times. Problem is that people have been dumbed down to the point of brainwashing so that they will instinctively believe Rockefeller over Aaron Russo

QueensHart: We did write to her husband today and received the following response. He's included some information about writing to her directly at the bottom. Let's hope her support goes viral to ensure she gets the help she needs to regain her health! From: "Colin L. Jackson" <colinljackson@msn.com>To: (address removed)Date: Thu, 3 Dec 2009 02:28:02 +0000Subject: RE: please keep us posted on Sherry Hello family and friends, Sherry is doing much better. The swelling in her neck has gone down and the main challenge she has right now is the petty "drama" that goes on there. I apologize for sending this form letter to everyone but, to my surprise, when I sent the letter out to update you on Sherry's health and solicit you prayers, I did NOT expect to receive 300 emails in two days. I am overwhelmed by your care and concern. But, at the same time, I'm overwhelmed with trying to answer each email. So, I am asking that you would give me a few days as I attempt to respond to each one of you as soon as I can. If you would like to write Sherry, you can send your letters (NO bubble wrap, NO cardboard, NO gifts, NO greeting cards with audio) to: Sherry Peel Jackson59085019FCC Coleman Camp F2P.O. Was'nt she on "Freedom to Facism DVD"? Some people think that taxes go to Overseas bankers through fed. Dp think that's true?
at 16:49 on December 4th, 2009
Yes she was, as mentioned in the story.
Income tax goes to pay the interest on America's debt to the Federal Reserve.

Mrs. Jackson is truly a person of principal and stood up for what she feels is right. Many times when a "Whistle Blower" takes isssue with somethng they are immediately suffer peer harassment so great they have to leave their jobs for their own safety and health. Many of them suffer the loss of longterm relationships, marriages and other social issues.
The health issue she has is not uncommon in Whistle Blowers, while she has an underlying medical condition, many of these people develop severe medical issues including excessive stress and trauma related to their choice to bring something to the public view.
I do not think the government is going to let her "die in prison" but she will be suffering with her decision for the rest of her life.

It's outrageous that they jailed this poor woman. The Fed is running up trillions in debt while they ride on our backs. Yay! Obama hope and change! Twenty years from now, when we'll still be paying off Obama's "stimulus" package, the tax and spend Democrats will still be blaming Bush.
