Walgreens, CVS Flu Shots: Free to Unemployed, Uninsured
Walgreens and CVS will offer free flu shots to unemployed and uninsured Americans. About 100,000 people looking for work will be able to get free flu shots at CVS; Walgreens will offer around 33,000.
Traditionally, those without jobs or insurance are the first to skip seasonal flu shots, but interest in immunization is up following the outbreak of H1N1. The flu shots available are not H1N1 vaccines, just to clarify.
Typically, CVS and Walgreens charge around $25 for the shots, which are available now. Rite Aid begins selling flu shots today, and Wal-Mart will also be selling flu shots, later this month.
Job seekers are among the least likely to get flu shots, with 34 percent of them receiving shots last year, compared with 49 percent of the overall population, according to a CVS study.
