I am not sure I would feel comfortable riding a bike around Manhattan what with potholes, crazy cabs and the rest.
Some parts of New York might make the cut though.
Want to sketch ways to get around town on 2 wheels in a relatively safe fashion some people stepped up to the plate.
The recently launched Ride the City helps you find the best bicycle route between 2 points. It might not be the shortest but it tries to offer the safest by locating routes that maximize the use of bike lanes and green ways.

Every city should have a guide like this! Especially since it takes bike lanes into consideration (I would hope they have a "avoid hills" option as well...)

Thank you Terri
As for the hills it takes practice to find the right pace
