Liam Perk, who just turned 2-years-old, died after he was bitten by the family's 8-year-old Weimaraner this morning. Authorities said Liam Perk was walking with the family dog, but was bitten in the neck without any apparent provocation. The toddler was transported to Cape Coral Hospital, but was pronounced dead.
The 8-year-old Weimaraner was confiscated by Lee County Animal Services.
At 7:41 a.m., Cape Coral Police, Fire and EMS responded to a report of an animal bite with injuries in the 200 block of SE 45th Terrace.
NowPublic reported a similar incident of dog attacking baby earlier this year, when a 3-month-old baby in Wales died after he was attacked by two family dogs.

an animal is an animal, you can't trust and expect an animal act like humans, keeping pets that are more powerful than some of family members is totally wrong and is waiting for catastrophe to happen

I have had two Weimaraners one that live to be ten and one that is currently three years old and she is part of the family. I still agree that having a big pet that can over power any child is dangerous and I always made sure to restrain or watch our pet around any little children. An animal even just playing around can seriously hurt a small child. Feel sad for the family of the baby and the weim.

I also have a Wiemer, who is two. He is very loving but can get protective of me. He is very pretty and sometimes people will begin to come toward us to pet him, while on a walk and will growl at them. He stops after I warn him to behave, but I'm not sure how he'd behave on his own. I sometimes excuse him, by telling people he's retarded. They don't get as freaked out and walk away laughing. Just read the February 6th comment - Oh my God, what kind of an ANIMAL (an insult to animals) would write LOL after "baby dead"? You are obviously mentally ill or devoid of any humanity. May God (who I'm sure you don't believe in) have mercy on your soul (which I doubt you have) when you die (which I hope is soon). The world would be better off without you...Rest in Eternal Peace little Liam...

Perhaps it is someone who is sick and tired of hearing people go on, and on, and on, about dogs being "part of the family," etc. Dogs are animals, and people's considering them "part of the family" and trying to turn them into humans is the reason there are so many sad stories like the one about little Liam Perk. The parents of this child did so many things wrong. First, large dogs--or any dog for that matter--does not belong in the house. Had the dog been outdoors where it belonged, this particular attack would not have occurred. Second, the parents should not have had large dogs around small children. People need to decide whether they want to have children or dogs, because small children and dogs do not mix. No matter how sweet and docile the dog may seem, it is still an animal and will tear the throat out of a child in a heartbeat, just like happened in this case. Furthermore, whether or not a child is supervised usually makes little difference--the father in this case was just a few inches from the child. This case demonstrates just how quickly a "gentle" dog can turn vicious and kill.

Thank goodness for the constitution. It allows us all to write what we wish. I am more than positive that you have done great things for your family, for your community and to better mankind. I expect that you have never experienced great loss and hope you never have to. I am certain that you did not read all the information regarding this story, in other words the whole story. I am hopeful that you are able to choose and control whatever noble choice, accident or reason that takes you from this planet. May you rest in peace when it does. Until then and for whatever reason, contribute something to society, to others happiness and well being and truly be a part of making the world a better place.
