White House Easter Egg Roll 2010
White House is celebrating its long time tradition: the Easter Egg Roll Monday, a White House tradition which started back in 1878. This time, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama invited stars to join the Easter celebration. Invited were NFL players, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno, and Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon.
The theme of this year's Easter Egg roll event is healthy living. Children participate in sport activities, music events, listening to stories, and, of course, the egg hunts and egg rolling races.
On this day, 30,000 kids and their families get to roll hard-boiled Easter Eggs across the White House lawn.
Storyreading is one of the most anticipated event, because it is read by Harry Potter's creator J. K. Rowling. She answered questions from the children, and reassured them that she is still writing stories.
Sporting events are center to the theme of this year's White House Easter Egg roll, since exercising is an integral part of healthy living for children. Kids get to play tennis, softball, golf, soccer, basketball, and play football with the Washington Redskin.
Children who participate in the White House Easter Egg roll event will get a souvenir egg made from hardwood. They also get to take home goody bags made from recycled plastic, which includes a brochure on healthy eating .
This year's roll also features basketball, yoga and healthy eating activities, all part of first lady Michelle Obama's campaign against childhood obesity. As she welcomed some of the 30,000 guests to the White House Monday, Mrs. Obama said she hoped children would have fun while learning about how they could lead healthier lives.
