Why Obese People Are More At Risk for This Debilitating Condition
A new study is shedding light on an important association between diabetes and obesity. The study, published in Diabetes Care, examined a group of young adults from 2001-2002 and from 2008-2009, for the incidence and likelihood of developing diabetes. To do that, researchers recorded body mass index (BMI) and Hb. A1c (a measurement to establish the presence of type 2 diabetes) at the beginning and at the end of the study period, which lasted for 13 years.
Obesity was defined as having a BMI over 30 and the duration of obesity was defined as never obese, recent obesity, fluctuation obesity, and continual obesity.
